An article "A Hippocampal Cognitive Prosthesis: Multi-Input, Multi-Output Nonlinear Modeling and VLSI Implementation" by Theodore W. Berger, et al.
(ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/) tells about a brain implant with 16 analog-to-digital converters and 32 channels of output.

I've been discussing it with Prozion (github.com/prozion) before and he has a very good question.
"How does the implant function at all with that amount of channels?"

The previous explanation from "Computational Cognitive Neuroscience" about memory de-indexing sheds some light on that: the article is about the same brain regions: CA1, CA3 and DG.

@trinsec You were asking so here is a sample of my writing. This is not using the infamous carbon black ink though.

@calligraphy One of my favorite quotes of all time (hollander translation). #calligraphy #DantesInferno #English #Writing #poem #poetry

Possibly the nerdiest argument I've ever heard is claiming that #haskell programmers should stop calling <*> the "TIE fighter" and start calling it the "TIE advanced".

I love it!

I swear carbon black ink is made by fairies. Everytime i use any other ink i intantly regret it.

These are still available if anyone wants any. I have been working on other variants of this design though.

So I recently got a few thousand boards printed up for my protoboard design. Tested them on a few circuits and im amazed how well they work. I'm wr...

Interesting fact of the day. All aluminum has a skin of sapphire. When you cut a piece of aluminum, and expose the pure aluminum to the air it very quickly reacts with the air on the surface forming aluminum oxide, which is identical to lab and natural sapphire, except much more pure.

@freemo

I've only worked with homebuilt (rather, cobbled-together-in-the-lab-by-grad-students) CNCs, so I can't recommend specific products, but I'll try to pose some questions that you should consider, and maybe in doing so your decision will become clearer.

You say it should be metal-capable. What metals and form factors are you worried about - cutting shapes from sheet steel, milling complex 3D forms from aluminium billet, safely handling something weird like titanium or magnesium?

What size working area do you need? Is that a desktop CNC machine? A freestanding one, maybe the size of an armoire? A full commercial VMC, about the size of a minivan?

Are you comfortable maintaining it yourself, or will you need a professional to keep everything aligned/lubricated/operating? Come to that, do you want to build your own instead of buying a premade one?

Regarding 3D printers, I have a Printrbot Simple, but unfortunately I can't recommend it unless you only want to make orthogonal surfaces - diagonals and curves are terrible. You might consider something modular like the Snapmaker 2.0, which has attachments that can be swapped out to make it a CNC machine, laser cutter, or 3D printer, but of course this will involve compromises that single-purpose designs don't have to worry about.

There is a small mailbox here.

Its been like 4 or 5 months now since i did any cannabis, but today is feeling like a cannabis day. I think I might do up some edibles, just need to decide what cannabinoids I want to go with.... hmmm might go balls to the wall and go pure delta-9 today, live a little.

@freemo @marathon so dry he once tried to pay the ferryman with some and that's what happened to river styx.

Fried rice protip: Always make your fried rice dirty, you wont regret it. That is add roux, or if you don't have any, nut paste. I actually prefer the nut paste, just blend up some walnuts and almonds and your good to go but you can experiment with other nuts too.

Easily makes any fried rice twice as good.

Anyone know anything about CNC machines (bonus points for 3d printer knowledge too)...

I want to buy a metal-capable CNC as well as a 3D printer to supplement it. Mostly to do random projects. But could use advice on what to purchase.

I am also curious about the software side, ideally id like to get a CNC that is easy to work with from a software level and bonus points if i could somehow use the same software to design for both CNC and 3d printer since parts for any particular project are likely to come from both.

@pixelfed Hi there! As a #blind screen reader user, I would really appreciate it if you'd take the time to #captionyourimages as it would really help with #accessibility
And it's not just people like me who appreciate them either, it's users on low bandwidth or metered connections who don't want to load the full res picture, those with #autism who sometimes find the context helpful, the huge percentage of those with preexisting visual impairments [#VI] which includes many people over 55 ETC.
It doesn't have to be anything incredibly detailed or artfully written, but something is nearly always better than nothing. I believe that their is even an option to automatically #OCR images now which should give you a head start.

hmmm what to have for breakfast... I feel like i need more pre-cooked meat in the house for exactly this reason. Without some protein eggs will be lacking and all i have is some frozen sausage.. ugh.

Holy hell I think I just invented the best healthy drink I have ever tried.

All I did was take some milk, add some almond essential oil, and some artificial sweetener. Never have I ever tasted something so glorious!

I was recently reminiscing about as a kid playing with neodymium magnets for the first time. I am just old enough to remember when they first were invented, or at least, when they were available to the public. They were invented two years after I was born but took a few years to actually be massed produced. So by the time they were available and a novelty I was just old enough to remember it.

I'm literally old enough to remember when modern day magnets were invented, lol. Thats old.
