A battery filled with algae is somehow managing to power this computer for months: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2319584-computer-powered-by-colony-of-blue-green-algae-has-run-for-six-months/

No-one's quite sure what's going on. Possibly the algae is serving as the medium catalyzing the interaction between the anode and cathode in the battery.

Except research shows the anode isn't degrading, which suggests ...

... the *algae* is producing the electrons.

Some thoughts on this in my blog post here, item 6: https://clivethompson.medium.com/lavaforming-ai-writes-heavy-metal-and-drones-that-deliver-hamburger-helper-59b9bcfda9a8

@jellycrystals No worries, I was new once too, and still far from perfect.

If you ever need ink, pen, or writing advice hit me up.

Sheen is a quality of ink where it has a glossy shine to it, and when light reflects off the glossy surface the color of the reflected light is different than the color of the ink itself. It is very special and only a few inks do it and furthermore you need the right paper for it to show.

Attached is an example of sheen, notice the golden color on the word "things".. that color isnt there its a reflection and it goes away as you tilt the paper and shows across the whole text at the right angle.

I also included a different ink with sheen on my name. Both pictures are the same instance just held at different angles so you can see how the sheen changes with angle.

My ink arrived! Now I just have to use up the ink in the cartridges so I can then start using the converters in my fountain pens.

Liquid Cooling at Supercomputing ‘22

Thanks to @Romaq for inviting me to qoto. I hope to find a home here. Twitter is evil; Facebook is cluttered and confusing. So here I am.

I read somewhere just now that it's useful to post additional information about oneself. So, I'm:

the daughter of one of the early nuclear engineers. He specialized in materials research for shielding suitability;
70 years old;
retired from a healthcare system after 40 years of employment with them, the last 20 years were in IT;
The proud mother of a mathematics in a Denver university who is also invilved with the LGBTQ community;
fond of #sci fi;
also watch extended versions of #lotr every year;
former mother of a bushbaby, who passed in 1971;
definitely left of center;
a voter;
getting solar panels in February;
a fugitive from Texas currently in Albuquerque, NM;
fond of all animals, used to be the neighborhood snake wrangler;
the daughter of a natural history devotee;
a voracious reader;
the wife of a fine arts scholar, who has read me to sleep every night for 24 years - all of the major classics and many of the minor ones (I got the liberal arts education that I had missed as a science student);
a terrible housekeeper, with an even worse house husband;
glad to be alive even though that might change any day with the current political disaster.

This seems like an appropriate first comic for mastodon.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

@freemo hey! Not sure what’s been going on, but hope you’re ok. Really appreciate everything you do here! Sending lots of positivity your way, make sure you look after yourself! Folly is offering a hug 🐶

I took time to hug and assure my wife @mikmaqpeek it wasn't her coughing that had me up at various times last night. It was being bossed around and told what's-what, being complained at and grumbled to. Some people's puppies!
