@freemo #joinin I’ve had my lonely times on holidays so happy to chat!

@freemo @herid

"Yeah, but this project is open source so people can do what they want... but ONLY if they do it the way I want!"

Or such is my impression of the situation.

Merry Christmas to all of #qoto - still my favorite local timeline merry Christmas to @freemo still my favorite pachyderm admin merry Christmas to whomever sees it and happy Hanukkah for folks that celebrate it (like we do here!) and happy holidays to everyone that’s working front line jobs and happy holidays to those that aren’t working front line jobs but have to work these days anyway ❤️

@freemo he drinks sherry over here. After a few tens of million sherries and mince pies he is 100000000% over the drink drive limit.

EXTREMELY RARE footage of the elusive box jellyfish Chirodectes. Larger than a soccer ball, this jelly is a true ocean mystery, and this video is one of the only in existence, filmed off the coast of Papua New Guinea in 2021.

Which is subjectively the best greeting for the Holiday Season?

@freemo

Oh! Wow, this changes everything! But QTs then are only visible within this instance? Or at most in the federated set of instances with the feature?

@mansuetus Could we have QuoteToots on Pilote, pretty please ?😊

It works :)

Did you ever notice students have their own interests and motivations, and that many are not as enamored with your curriculum as you are? I have... and those are the students we must work the hardest to engage with interesting problems and questions. #education #edutoots

Say if I joined an instance and my friend joined another, if one of our instances block the other then we can't communicate anymore, this is a big problem with defederation. I can of course ask my friends to join the same instance I'm on, but this will lead to centralization which is bad for fedi. This is where #UFoI comes in, its a group of instances that I know for sure will be federated with each other, so I can just ask my friends to join one of the instances listed there.

And the transparency bit is something I really appreciate, I know there are some bad actors on fedi that engage in slandering and false accusations without any evidence backing their claims, so I hope #UFoI can solve these issues.

@tio
Actually I know there are some people who's thinking about the long term consequences of defederation and is trying to find a solution to this problem. I haven't looked much into it but they're working on this project ufoi.org/ which aims to form a community of instances that agree to federate with each other, its not perfect but its much better than the current way of doing things which is not very transparent. FYI, this is not like a closed off group, they promote openness and decentralization, you'll get the gist once you take a look at what they're proposing. I first heard about this project from @admitsWrongIfProven and @freemo, they seem to be very open minded and transparent about everything which I really appreciate.

Please reboost this #poll.

In your opinion (does not have to be informed), what is the ideal #Mastodon #Instance size for #content #creators? (For content consumers, see poll in previous toot.)

@fourmajor I disagree to an extent. This is a "how many hairs make a beard" question. There is some liminal space, but your profile picture clearly has one and @freemo 's clearly lack one. There is a realm of existence on the edge of consciousness, but it is unstable. I propose that while there may be debate about what hit the historic marker of the first artificial consciousness, that it will be perfectly evident if and when such a thing comes into being.
