'Windows Subsystem for Linux 2' Will Include a Microsoft-Written Linux Kernel"

I had a dream I went back in time and saw the founding of EFF.org

People need to realize two things:

1) There is a lot of legitimate racism being provoked by the coronavirus and we should not tolerate that.

2) Identifying china as the source of the virus or criticizing their choices that led about this tragedy is not racism.

covid-19, gratitude

Heartfelt appreciation from me, an immunocompromised person, to everyone out here on the fediverse doing what they can to manage the spread of coronavirus. So many little hardships & efforts can seem pointless–we never know which gestures might not end up mattering at all, & which will have a huge unseen impact. But at the very least every contribution is a sign of human solidarity & care in the face of frustration & fear that can hopefully spread to others. So thank you all💝

The biggest risk in the coronavirus epidemic in my non-expert opinion is going to be assortment. IF this happens with any of the strains already adapted to infect humans we might really be in trouble...

We already know that Coronaviruses int he wild are capable of recombination...

A good read and somewhat related:

Wong MC, Cregeen SJ, Ajami NJ, Petrosino JF (February 2020). "Evidence of recombination in coronaviruses implicating pangolin origins of nCoV-2019". bioRxiv (preprint). doi:10.1101/2020.02.07.939207.

I'm not particularly scared of the Coronavirus.. yes a lot of people will die and it will be a tragedy and I wish it could be avoided, but its not the end of the world, most of us will make it through.

What scares me though is if this thing starts recombinating with the other coronavirus strains, plus there may already be two strains of the one causing the epidemic too.

If this thing start recombinating the problem is never going to go away and vaccines may never be possible. That is a scary though.

This meme has been circling around for at least 3 years now, it gets more true everyday...

While we're all focused on the Corona crisis the US government is quietly pushing an internet #surveillance bill that is aimed at abolishing message encryption:

We should probably pay attention to this and spread awareness even if we are not American: eff.org/deeplinks/2020/03/earn

Some really nice eye candy showing various quarantining and social distancing techniques and how it effects the spread of a virus.

Worth checking this out even if its just for the animations:

Its so good to know so many of the projects I founded or am project owner on (open-source projects specifically) are used by so many people. Its easy to forget but everytime I release a new version the emails start flying in from people thanking me or asking questions. It really keeps me going.

>timeline barren
>go to @freemo 's Following page
>go Follow a bunch of the sciency/scholarly/linuxy kind

Let's see if THIS makes it worth checking my timeline more than once every 2-3 days! :flower: :mario_awe: :amaze:

People never seem to realize that a great many of the logical fallacies they engage in every day could be avoiding if they just understood Regression to the Mean!

99% of the coronavirus is just me being pissed off companies are using it as an excuse to SPAM me.

Today I learned that many/most color laser printers layer an array of yellow microdots on top of documents 🔬

This Machine Identification Code en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_ encodes a print date and a serial number unique to the machine. It only became public knowledge in 2004, ~20 year after deployment 😑

The Technical University of Dresden released a tool 2 years ago to layer on _even more dots_ to render the MIC unreadable and aid whistleblowers publishing github.com/dfd-tud/deda ✊
