Hopped off the boat and decided to swim to a small uninhabited island. Was quite fun. Sadly they wouldnt let me swim back.

The Roe opinion was a total mess. Privacy? That’s just absurd. It should have been based purely on the liberty clause of the 14th Amendment without reference to privacy. Casey wasn’t much better. The overarching problem is Congress shirks its responsibility so they don’t have to face voter backlash and they just push everything onto the Court, which is unaccountable to the voters. Then SCOTUS ends up twisting and tweaking itself into a corner trying to legislate.

Also, as you have noted elsewhere, we a need a clear definition as to personhood, which would resolve the issue definitively.

Well, now the ball’s in Congress’ court (pun intended) so let’s see if they have the balls (pun intended) to fix it.

Im in the middle of the ocean boping around the maldives diving. I will be alow to respond for a bit.

@freemo I'm effectively the leader of Gentoo Hardening, a Matrix room which has been focused on security and privacy hardening Gentoo, using musl libc (not glibc), LLVM/Clang toolchain (not GCC), stripping codebases, even getting Chromium to run on musl and are now hardening it with Hexavalent patches. We have made huge progress in getting barely usable or broken musl packages working as daily driver packages.

These improvments have substantially decreased attack surface, allowed us to implement security features such as proper toolchain hardening and control-flow integrity, and have proper isolation of programs.

You can check my Git configuration files repo for the work I've personally done:

Thanks to biden you can now officially loose fundamental constitutionally enshrined rights by seeking psychiatric help..

This is probably one of the most dangerous laws passed in my lifetime and remarkably both sides are ok with it.

Looks like my vacation was just extended to 4 weeks. I decided on the maldives

@freemo
You get to the knot of the problem. There are no objective criteria. Different criteria can be set up to serve different ends.
The protection of the fetus is a criteria in itself, that justifies control over people's lives.
If the well being of fetus was the issue, maternal health would be the priority, and that would go beyond pregnancy, it would justify providing free healthcare and other services for all. Institutions complicit with such high rates of maternal death, that normalize access to health restricted to those that can pay, only hypocritically care about the fetus.

My thoughts on the overrulling of Roe v. Wade

Generally speaking I do think the overrulling was a bad idea **as is**. Ideally if we kept abortion protections at the federal level it should have never existed as a simple supreme court precedence. I would be all for overturning the supreme court ruling and instead replacing it with an actually amendment protecting abortions.

That said any such amendment I would also leave to be pretty loose. Namely I'd be ok with any bans/restrictions on abortions post 15 weeks conception but prior to that abortions should be strictly permitted. In addiction I'd make it a requirement that all abortions <15 weeks after contraception **must** be performed regardless if the person can pay for it up front or not. We would also need to make access to pregnancy tests free.

Since I dont see the above happening I cant in my right mind support the overturning of roe v wade, as much as I do prefer reducing federal laws and oversight... this one is just too close to a violation of natural rights to me.
