@shane COMPUTERS AS RISKY TIME-CONSUMPTION

I long realised and even left computing for this exact reason you mention Shane- although we feel it differently "lots of wasted of time" I think can sound very familiar to all of us (which includes not having better to do or like being stagnant or un-individualistic) but it's more that repetition of the same things that we knew we were doing and installing forthe 1000th time...

Above that reasoning more importantly was / is *not* incrementing or improving the human contact and our practises. Still the industrial era.

So when staring at windows or waiting for more, increasingly unfulfiled or just plain downloading infinite amounts- realised that mix was bad.

I went and tried for personal contact / real enrichment more often in everything rather than installing and trying to figure out stuff in an almost brute-force way with time dumps pretending it's learning and not just buying and installing more stuff or playing / fiddling with something ultimately undid itself or makers changed later.

A lot of middle + / - here but at the end feels like playing the same PlayStation game and without much reward unless you magically chose the right path and somehow you fit in industry or helping people (hopefully)....

At the end you might feel sick and full of regret for not doing something better with the time or for getting sucked in (again) realising how many hours past - but worst is you knew it too over and over.
This reminded me of the Playstation and how that's similar though I don't underestimate or give less credit to some good part of early computer - but there was a big price to pay and even if not a lot was out there in the world I 'could' have done more or just installed Window less...

I think that's a good point to end it. Comment welcome.

Readers with their own experience might find this is the most reliable source of information as it's always a personal thing.

I wonder- do you feel you are sucked in and have that feeling of 'oh no not this loop again'....?

loving the @rgibli@twitter.com and @doctorow@twitter.com talk at @BKCHarvard@twitter.com, especially their point that the supposed conflict between free and open access to material and ensuring artists get paid is a false dichotomy

ANSWERING QUESTIONS

WHY MASTODON GROUPS & PROFILES DON'T REALLY WANT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS (REASONS)

- "WASTE OF TIME" 🕛

- DEMANDS PATIENCE ⌛ / MORE FEELINGS 💗

- MASTODON PEOPLE ARE MORE CLEVER SO HARDER AS OPPONENTS TO DEBATE! 🧠

- SKILL GAP OF AUDIENCE :ms_great_axe: :ms_european_battle_axe:

- MACHINES MORE ENJOYABLE THAN FIXING PEOPLE 💻 🙍

OPTIONAL DEEPER EXPLANATION:

I like your sentiments NekoSock but as far as I can see getting people on Mastodon opens them up in many possible unrewarding ways.

Below explains that.

MASTODON PEOPLE ARE CLEVER
People are probably far more intelligent here so preaching to the choir but also will get cleverly heckled too for flaws. it will expose them to some level that groups or companies can't keep up with even though ideal they might want to solve it all).

TIME
People / groups often DON'T WANT TO ENGAGE WITH THEIR PUBLIC (been like this for ages). IT'S MORE WORK!
or happy to say it ion other ways (I'm not hating) but generally it's practical mostly about why and why not.

TRY IT YOURSELF SEND A QUESTION!
So you can try it yourself with many eff / open source / floss / even individuals - if they are big enough they some will not reply which is often rightly not to spend all their life here but also it's used as a mirror, message echo account, alternative source for news etc - not for actual conversation.
They do not want to spend time talking, debating and even converting people.

This would involve dealing with personal things (which OF COURSE is the whole point of life) but nobody really wants to do this or allocates sitting time... and yes a forum really helps but the lack of human interaction and representation and human quality SUCKS ASS (it seems).

I can see how it's problematic (people are generally) BUT AVOIDANCE
IS EVEN MORE PROBLEMATIC!

OPEN SPACES?
I could have it wrong and happy to hear where there are places to talk, where it's welcomed and not like chasing people and forcing them into a corner. PRO-ACTIVE.

I believe this is why people don't respond and even Protonmail @protonmail
(MAYBE NOT or not now BUT SIMILAR I've seen) they decide to be one-way info...
Even at the reason of being split with Twitter this still needs solving...

This could have all change or not be the case but I doubt it (ask yourself how often you open yourself up to people or start talking to them humanly on tough or political subjects -
WE'RE ALL OUT OF PRACTISE)

You see it also in the bio
"This is just a bot-only account"
"Messages are not monitored by human"
"Use discord for q/a"

Yes it takes a lot of time.
I think it's worth it, many don't think it's worth it.

PEOPLE LIKE FIXING MACHINES MORE THAN PEOPLE (and lost training too)

Many rather try change minds in some other way than actually audio chat with them and sort it out.... hmm doesn't work too well always indirectly
 🧠

SKILL GAPS / KNOWLEDGE-GAPS OF AUDIENCE
I thought I'd also add in their defense (again not hating) that people don't like the skill gap or to tell people ("err sounds like you don't actually know what you're talking about" and levelling people or even schooling them so they 'get the real picture' and well I think that's good too but some never did some of this)

ENGINEER WANTS TO ONLY TALK TO ENGINEER (A MISTAKE)

so you end up with people ONLY WANTING TO TALK TO PROGRAMMERS.... and that is the death of the world / not reaching others or self-training everyone with everyone else (even if you main thing is talking to programmers JUST A BIT MORE ONCE A WEEK!).

The short-loop-mentality can be effective but very limiting in the human sense (as we se and are trained in Capitalism)

In theory (at least in my head) once we have text and organising in something like Mastodon why can't we fix everything with everyone!?! or just have small circles to harmonise EVERYTHING !
Increment is one of the only ways but still I feel for human things we try one-shot / long-shot things which hardly ever can work or last long.

COMES DOWN TO BELIEVING IT OR NOT ABOUT FIXING HUMANS
I think it's possible to fix assumptions / believes and perceptions but many don't AND THEY (the programmers) maybe don't have teh skill, will or forsight to see it's HUMANS THAT FIX THINGS NOT MACHINES (EVEN THOUGH THEY WORK LIKE ONE)

*** and that's the appeal of machines I believe 0101010101010 ***

People who want to fix people will take any questions. Others might think fixing machines helps humanity :ablobsigh: 💻

Your #Android phone has a so-called Google advertising ID*, a unique number for your device. Using that, #tracking companies follow and record what you do on your phone, even across apps from different companies.

Luckily, you can now disable the advertising ID to make it harder for them to track you. We recommend doing this to everyone. Here's how it works.

*Unless of course, you’re using a google-free #LineageOS, #GrapheneOS or similar. :)

FYI gringos, Latin American migrants are not "fleeing communism", they are fleeing the predatory economic policies that Washington has imposed on us (dubbed "The Washington Consensus"). Said policies have been imposed via economic pressure, coup d'etat, sanctions, murder or attempted murder, invasions or plain robbery, like we can see in the case of the Venezuelan gold.

AUDIO TOPIC: 2mins
HABITS & ENERGY ETC

- Industry upgrading society into new models of complexity, reducing access, contradicting energy conservation through natural paradoxes from progress and man-made new usage or design

Example mentioned:

- Cars, can't get into the engine
(could mention not being able to open boxes for computing)

- PARADOX of keeping light on to save energy / damage less the lightbulb filament

Feedback welcome. It's just a clip of a 'good point' 9hopefully) from a audio conversation.

@Yarin Hi, great to hear you here.

Check my profile. Save the world
...or just yourself :) (it's the same thing).

But seriously let me know if anything you see is half interesting becaue I have time and if you have your own direction then it helps alternative passenger and driver :)

@AYMusic
Sounds like it's separate things running to generate sound (probably is!) and then gets really good and wants to almost break free from it's construct! (halfway mainly the faster bit)

And the picture is that one person with fluffy coat or someone standing behind them?

@tyil
Maybe they are indirectly warning customers that if you use these products they can end up entering your digestive system.

WordPress users, advice needed:

What's the best way to get a "copy to clipboard" button?

(So, a button people can press on the site and it copies a pre-determined string of text to their clipboard)

#AskFedi #WordPress

I'm having a bit of technical trouble over on @Persephone so I'll ask here:
I'm in the process of trying to get #Autism and #ADHD assessments for my 22yo adult kid. I'm being asked for more' evidence' before they will even see him, but it's tricky because we home educated. There are no school reports, but they apparently won't take my word for the fact that symptoms were present during childhood :(
Does anybody here have experience or advice please? (UK) #homeschool #homeeducation

You need Tor to access this URL. Boosts are welcome.

@loke You can be a professional and regurgitate nonsense. You won't be a good professional but in IT it doesn't matter much, rarely responsibility for any incident gets correctly assigned; unlike in regular engineering where I expect the ratio of bad professionals to be much lower as a result of the direct consequences of bad engineering.

"TO KNOW OR NOT TO KNOW THE WORLD YOU LIVE IN?"

THAT IS THE ENDLESS QUESTION

It's political to want to know the business model of life
(unless you think it's not dominated by business).

It's also political not to know it or not to want to know it.

MY TIPS:

Beware of nice people! Kind of cowards.

I mean that they are nice BUT EVEN FEED THE BAD GUYS...

they let the bad guys feed on them / bully them and even don't have the right principles or strong enough will to stop them. The might even give them the keys from just the mention of the word legal or scared of risking arrest which is just a formal chat and them wasting time mostly, using it often as a threat bad not really much more for small things.

CAN YOU STAY OUT OF TROUBLE?
Trouble inevitably comes our way whichever way we go- yes don't wave flags and you can delay things but also know it's important to just be responsible in life.

ARE THEY COWARDS?
Cowards is a strong word but it's seriously to that level while they might be strong in another way(s) you might be able to work with but most people I don't think are serious or just inside their short-loops so it's limited with them...

@jonn_blanchard Ah this will be a good one to end the notifications on my side, such good stuff but the frequency is great for those who can

again I know you read first time, but in profile settings you could set to 'unlisted as default and just change to public (which would alert me) to the first and last post (without being too strict about it) but also not sending every few seconds almost about the same thread (the last post as public would replace all 3+ post alerts and clicking...)

thanks again I'll consider you considered and wait for a change
otherwise it's really been an honour and keep going (I'm the bottleneck here for wanting to keep up and enjoy rather than demote you to a followers list that would have all these post fragmented and piled up in the future)!

Really good stuff. I'll never see what's in the 5pound bag! 💰
