"Moms" and mothers stereotype in Tech... Times have changed...

@rmondello
Initial thoughts are I need to check myself and in my favour mom's did a lot but in computing near-0... so had some weight there also because it's only commercially been around 20 years so just now people are mom's more than nerds people were back then.
●Hope this isn't offensive more of a time line thing
●and yes mom's do he'll of a lot (mine the cleaning but more and more do OTHER stuff which I'm glad to see/hear without seperating gender -
●JUST EVERYONE has responsibility and awareness slowly being improved on all fronts ♡

People are idiots but more like PAID enforcement or paid enforcers of idiocrasy more than only individually. ..

@cobratbq Agree plenty if that around... and didn't see the word 'paid to be' there as it's a big difference and nice people can think people are idiots more like what you said rather than enforcement of idiocrasy (or whatever the profit tree leans towards as more 'efficient' by ignoring things etc)

... ? (your thoughts on that please as I feel it's more often this *deliberately* than things from lack of intellect or accidental things y systematic patterns or individual ones).

EVERYONE IS TO BLAME (EVERYONE HAS RESPONSIBILITY)...

It's everyone who doesn't know what they are doing...

(for example buying coffee by the ton and thinking it's / can come ethically because they said so or now they put on a tree or frog logo suddenly)

Responsibility is increased by others who leverage the masses BUT ANYWAY TO START WITH You AND Everyone HAD TO KNOW:

IT COULDN'T EVER BE THIS EASY WITHOUT FALLOUT / REDUCING OTHERS.

Finding peace and humanity only through war is worrying...

Finding peace and humanity only through war is worrying, AND bad practise when countries stress each other other to contribute more stress/escalate/hide intentions of furthing war... which I think ALL are doing through cheating people using money/debt based economy.

So just the 'head' of snakes and war 'heads' are not the only contributing factor... it's everyone who doesn't know what they are doing (for example buying coffee by the ton and thinking it's / can come ethically because they said so or put a tree or frog logo suddenly).

Not just acting as consumer or contestant...

@Sheril
This pic works for me in the way that 'we' all...
● give / have given too much respect to many bad hosts / platforms.... including games run by whole countries run by state & bank partnering up!
● people (the other contestants) also need to not accept the game and HALT IT!.. So in my company I tell the customer what has happened / is happening or somehow get everything to stop (though this loophole they might seal up etc).

The meek or humble also need to know how to kick ass or they allow steamrollering. Gotta up the ante or show / do more sometimes (not just acting as consumer or contestant).

Published in 2016, this brilliant comic by artist Joe Dater somehow feels even more timely in 2023. #art

ActivityPub logo - not only Mastodon...

@andreas_kuckartz @stefan

Just to advertise ActivityPub a bit more...

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activi

I've pumped Mastodon for a fair while so feel it's true also to forget ActivityPub...

WIKIPEDIA url Thumbnail isnt the logo so had to add image manually doh! '^_^

Actually a page of different versions of this logo I would welcome as link / collection somewhere?

Just promoting logo and not only the logo.

The DoS attack against mastodon.online and mastodon.social is not very sophisticated. The attacker is using Digital Ocean to send various HTTP requests from multiple IP addresses at the same time. It's enough to exhaust Nginx worker connections. The useragents are spoofed. That's basically it. It will be mitigated, and this will make the network stronger. #ActivityPub #DDoS #InfoSec

These two photos show my packing area. I operate in two small rooms, containing 4 desks: disassembly area, soldering/hacking area where I work on mainboards, OS installation area (photo with cute osboot logo showing) and table for packing materials.

I run a tight ship.

How to get out of borrowing from people (and banks) that are in debt themselves and find it hard / imposdible to pay back ?

Another loan from same bad system doesn't work / only makes it worse! / speeds up debt

"Adding highway lanes to deal with traffic congestion is like loosening your belt to cure obesity." - Lewis Mumford in 1955.

We’ve known this for a long time, but we’ve put a massive amount of money, space, time & energy into pretending we don’t know it.

A Plea for Climate Justice - Report from the IAB Workshop on e-Impact
Vesna Manojlovic — 19 Dec 2022

labs.ripe.net/author/becha/a-p

This resulted in suggestions that were well received by workshop chairs and quoted in the follow-up sessions:

10% yearly decrease of energy & materials consumption for ICT;
Focus on actions - not on measurements;
Support for adding "Sustainability Considerations" section to each RFC!

what should be considered "the Internet": core? edge? whole ICT?

I also disagree with a focus of this paper* on "increasing energy efficiency" , because I believe that the focus should be on decreasing the consumption.

While I do find encouraging the existence of a group of technology vendors, service and content providers would be interested in "Greening of Streaming", I find their focus on increasing energy efficiency is misguided, because of "efficacy myth"♢ and Jevons paradox☆.

Question: What to do with old 48x CD-ROM or a DVD-ROM drive at end of life?...

● Question: What to do with old 48x CD-ROM or a DVD-ROM drive at end of life?

Imagine it's dead (which it isn't just keep making slipped disc noises)

It's quite heavy like literally A BRICK to use the mobile phrase but this has the dimension of real ■brick■ too !

Not sure if I'd even want to attempt fix
...could be belt drive and anyway sometimes newer is best for these things right? (Not to end with scratched discs? laser gives after a while? )

I cannot keep this to myself. There is a website (radio.garden) where you can listen to radio stations all over the world for free. No log in. No email address. Nothing.

When the site loads, you are looking at the globe. Slide the little white circle over the green dots (each green dot is a radio station) until you find one you like.

I have been listening to this station in the Netherlands and it absolutely slaps. I have no idea what they're saying but the music is fantastic.

I finished stitching this mandala this morning. It's what I've been doing with my hands during work calls and while decompressing from a big project.

Tempted to stitch a queer-affirming quote around the outside, but not sure what that should be.

Hello Fediverse!

I'm very excited to be offering a few precious things, which I wonder if some of you may find helpful, relevant, supportive, nurturing, useful:

- Empathic listening, empathy practice
- Listening, transforming and healing for anger, shame, guilt
- Support in figuring out your vision, purpose, goals, and bringing them to reality in a way that's within your capacity, taking into account strengths and limitations
- Mediation and conflict engagement, in personal and organizational situations
- Working with transforming patriarchal conditioning, deep wounds, beliefs, behavior patterns that bring us pain and block us from addressing needs and achieving purpose
- Human centered nonviolent power-with-people organizational systems, (or: how to work together, including within your Free Software project)
- Making effective collaborative decisions that everyone can wholeheartedly embrace
- So much more... ^_^

Why:

- I believe in a world that works for all
- Bringing these things to people is directly tied to my vision and purpose
- I enjoy giving in these ways <3
- I really really wish to gain more experience in these things
- I deeply care about the Fediverse, Free Software, Free Culture, power differences, bridging gaps between people & groups

Boost to help me reach people? <3

@garius there's one big difference:

The #fediverse is not a platform, it's a protocol-based community

Move from platforms to protocols
