#anarchy I've had a vision for social media that focuses on matching individuals based off mutual interest, weighted against their distance. With preference for closer people.

With hope, end result would be fostering local community while also giving people reasons to get off the phone and and into human interaction.

Tech that serves you not profiteers off you.

I'm no developer and wont make it myself. But I'd like to ruminate on the subject, people can join in if it pleases and sparkles

Plant some seeds as weather is getting better!

AND Food prices in some parts of the globe might help you realise *now is the time* to get dig a bit before the sun goes all the way down!... Get people involved or just start preparing and then get help / just do it as you like...

Peas, Tomatoes, Pumpkin, Paprika... just need some seeds - optionally some existing gardeners if any around....

Let me know if you're a grower and don't mind some questions!

Tech's big strength and weakness is that it was built to last... maybe too long...

Looking at a piece of solid honed metal I realised that this thing, much like Technology, is perhaps build to last too long...

From all the processes which we now see as a danger... maybe this is true...
From all the companies extending out from Governments / Empires... all doing their thing and paying themselves (and us if we do as we're told)
From just finding out including seeing mass resource destruction and
From factories like a Toxic type of mass farming / conversion...

...somewhat the whole organisation of metals and long lasting Tech could be all a bit of a counterfeit / bad exchange (IF in the end nature is what we want to perpetuate...

...though I can see us limiting tech or even stopping production and using what we have left... but the makers won't listen, they organised Tech and the bank funding in the first place for other reasons - mostly war / more money...

hard because I don't want to make it political but...

science and tech can't be separated from politics / mentalities of those generations of war-mongers overlapping into the now...

so while I don't claim anti-tech right now or any big thing- that realisation (like much which has been falsely built on or much made with money / force / fakery / crusades etc... all means this does have to be a serious thought.. and perhaps another financed branch of xyz empire)...

Starting the post I was feeling in awe how ' Technology lasts almost too long ' and then moved into how politics or environments don't let us go... from screens to surveillance to endless scroll....
That kinda mixed feeling... hmmm

We humans are also weak and need the toy to break to put the phone down / go back to before... or make it ourselves continuously in order not to make buying so easy or thoughtless (which contributes to recent comment that people don't even know free software... and why should they... people just buy and play... so that is also a weak point... ask people to make it themselves and they would really think about it and in the end not want to dig for metals or whatever...

MY COMMENT
🤔 This is exactly the locked-in kinda of DILEMMA starting from at the beginning of joining or at the end in exiting (you or company)

Sub-points of DILEMMA
- Joining dilemma, because your friend is on there and you're not (but probably you want something more from that system also like more friends/sharing/new feature)

- Exiting dilemma,
The company gets take over / bought / closed [GitHub being sold for example or rebranded] and it puts people in jeopardy.

People are expecting more and more to move which is good but still I feel a bit of a surprise is in store... (like where is your data beign stored now do you know? And is Microsoft still a great badge?)
So not hating but while having 'your' material stored away on some servers with 99% uptime, it just takes that business side for it *to go at anytime- down*...

It's fragile basically... or maybe I'm beign alarmist....

Like IF GitHub was for sale...
right....
NOW...

and you didn't know...

... and just found out from a message like this...

... ... ... and they already agreed an offer from Meta / Facebook when you came back from work....

What next?

And where's your code / operations going to go tomorrow?! ! !

" I will still have to use GitHub as I haven't migrated all of my projects away yet, and because many other projects still use and require you to use GitHub for collaboration. I hope that this will improve in the future. "

Why You Should Probably Move Away From GitHub to Codeberg

" Endlessly reading or endlessly posting on social media is also another extreme which won't help... "

@klaatu Ha, same, one of my earlier memories is asking "What are you doing dad?" and hearing "Compiling the kernel.".

Do you think it works to have an account and use commercial things like Facebook in order to get your Free Software / Freedom movement going ?

SUMMARY

YES - You think it works overall as 'better' to use BigTech to get the word out about causes.
We can use them more than they use us individually or as a group

NO - You think it's probably "selling out" or more bad work done than any good and USA resources are far superior - they wouldn't let any roots grow from their platforms. In fact it could also be measurably just an easy detection system / alarm ringer / honeypot so you are baited and they just develop worse or just block the way far up ahead in the road what they see trending and when 1000 people repeat the same "we'll do this")

MAYBE - You think maybe we can cheat superior / fast technology or get best out of them somehow (maybe use the algorithms) or use a low tech mixture (for example, just making 1 post via TOR and never touching the account again, cleanest in and out but considering your previous IP history / existing accounts will probably be associated although it's not always 100%)

The means justifies the end ( Any example where "the end justifies means" ? )

I guess killing a dictator but that doesn't stop people ending up with another one- so any measured examples?

What do you think should be my target audience?

I'm wondering what my 'target audience is'. (Thinking like this I know is a bit of a problem in the first place but anyway this kind of 'what can I do about people if they are the part of the problem chains/head of the consumption snake'...)

One side already knows why not but uses BigTech for activism anyway.

Other side is like sheep. But can't say BAAA to Faces or Facebook because it's practically an ultimatum for them (which I actually sympathise with and don't have much answer for other than- weigh all this (Tech crap) over all that (Moral stuff which is also +/- in Amoral System)

-----------------------
Q. What do you think should / could be my target audience that is useful in your eyes?
-----------------------
Let's say I'm done with the above 2 types or will do it on the way anyway so what else can I do if the market is 'saturated' or just doesn't want.

Do you think it works to have an account and use commercial things like Facebook in order to get your Free Software / Freedom movement going in a way you would like to spread it?

@UniversalVortices@mastodon.social @freeschool
By using nonfree software to support free software, you are making a redundant moot point for free software.

The best way to promote is to do without nonfree- otherwise you're just promoting the case against it

" Science is not separate from politics. Similarly technology is not also separate from politics.

And this is the compartmentalisation* that we do.
That is the problem. "

* = A mild state of dissociation
* = Act of distributing things into classes or categories of the same type

" I even stopped convincing privileged people after a time,
I usually go outside my class and try to convince under-privileged people. because there I have more chance of getting the point across."

"And I found in my limited experience, that this is probably true. But they are not in the position to change things, that is another problem. "

Seems sound enough as words and way-markers without even looking at source or event.

And I think is in theory good testing ground since a lot (like virtues, actual feeling in the moment) do need testing. Great.

@freeschool yes. Categorization is super handy and all, but is super stifling in the sciences and education. Cross pollination of disciplines needs to be encouraged way more heavily. It's where novel insight comes from

For example, when you are taught about greenhouse gases in school, they don't tell you why no action is happening.
The political part is missing.
The thing is science is not separate from politics.
Similarly. technology is also not separate from politics.
And this is the compartmentalisation we do in education. That is the problem.

" We have to be in the government ourselves to make that change... that is what I believe, because now the political situation is so bad "

It's an interesting line, not for everyone perhaps but perhaps just as needed in trying and letting them govern completely unchecked.

" People tend to think other dictatorships are bad, but their own dictatorship would be good. "

Comments welcome.
