Japanese Artist, Tatsuya Tanaka, Creates Miniature Dioramas Every Day for 10 Years :
The awesome @chrisstein posts the most amazing photos. He’s also one of the coolest people ever. Check it out.
I always wondered how Bell Labs, a private lab, could be so successful and win 9 (!) Nobel Prizes. The answer seems to be a continuous stream of funding and an environment that valued longterm research goals and scientific discovery over progress reports.
The nearest known black hole is 1600 light years away, but there are surely many others closer. This one was found only because it orbits a bright, sunlike star that wobbles under the influence of the black hole's gravity. https://noirlab.edu/public/news/noirlab2227/ #astronomy #space #blackhole
I'm truly exasperated with the instance blocking around here. I'm not migrating this account. All my fandom friends on fandom.ink are just SOL because for some reason the admin over there seems to have blocked this instance. I'm just so tired, already.
IMHO, the only time you should be blocking an entire instance is if there's an abuse / moderation issue. You shouldn't be deciding for your users if they should see content from 30k+ people.
I'm here for the STEM nerds and the ability to know who the jerks are. If I ever change my mind on the latter, I'll utilize the optional block list I know @freemo will happily provide me.
Does it bother me that some folks won't see my posts?* Nope.
*because their instance overlords have a monochrome view of the world, which insists that QOTO's approach is so wrong it doesn't deserve public discourse on any subject, no matter how inconsequential
For an example in which disjunction would be useful, consider my interest in this very thread.
A search for [#Mastodon AND #searching] would cover much of it. But a search for [#Mastodon AND (#search OR #searching)] would be more useful.
#Math and #Cats all in one post.
Great #photography too. #xp
