I'm coming to a point in my life when my ambitions have shrunk, and it feels so glorious.
I am no longer ashamed to say that I love small things. Smaller communities have always been more meaningful to me. Small businesses, modest but achievable goals, political ideologies that scale to thousands instead of millions. My dreams are small enough for me to live inside.
It's my goal to live in such a way that my gravestone can say "she attended well and faithful to a few worthy things."
@hawksquill beautiful. Let’s embrace modest ambitions and find fulfillment
Lots of cities are getting rid of parking minimums. There are zero excuses for #ottawa not to do this. Every building approved with the bullshit .5 / .7 parking allowances makes the housing way less affordable now and even more so in the future. They are explicitly choosing to make your lives less affordable. Fund public transit. Fund it. Charge congestion fees. Stop building new fucking roads. The lack of urgency and maintenance of status quo is bullshit #ontario #affordablehousing
Watching the elephant 🐘 for any signs of rolling over, now that its legislative branch is headless and a handful of hard right wingers are holding the elephant’s democracy hostage. 😬

Would you look at that.
DIY air purifiers are even more cost effective than we initially thought!
Looks like filters only need to be changed once during the school year for cr boxes. Which gives school facilities enough time over the summer to officially check each one!
The #Brazilian president...telling the #UN that market liberalism had plagued #democracy and disfranchised millions, leaving them in poverty and prey to nationalist #totalitarianism.
“The 10 richest #billionaires have more wealth than the poorest 40% of humanity,” he said, adding that there was a lack of political will among those who governed the world “to overcome inequality”.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/19/world-inching-ever-closer-to-a-great-fracture-says-un-chief
Profit ruins everything. And it doesn’t even bring you efficiency, the greatest failure. It is way more efficient to build a society that is safer and better for its people than to tear the planet apart for wont of a greed pillage. We also don’t place our passions in an undeniable basket, no matter what a capitalist thinks. Because then we would give more than we take.
What is this need of humans?

I’m sorry but I don’t see “outing trans kids so parents can abuse them” on this list. Also, where is “making sure LGBTQ people are neither seen nor heard”. I was told that these issues were very important. #CdnPoli
“No university anywhere in the world would admit her.
No scientific society would grant her membership.
Still, Eunice Newton Foote (July 17, 1819–September 30, 1888) would go on to become the first scientist to link atmospheric carbon dioxide levels to rising planetary temperature.”

@jjsylvia @academicsunite @academicchatter @academia_carnet too right!
@girls_can @academicsunite @academicchatter @academia_carnet The problem is that everyone qualified to teach this knows to turn down the offer to do so 😂
@virome_girl @academicchatter @academicsunite @academia_carnet haha. It was actually one of the ncfdd emails that triggered my post 😝. “Explosive productivity” is part of the problem.
What I really need is an #unproductivity webinar. A short course on turning down opportunities. A retreat on drafting a 5 year plan to stay the course. A print out worksheet on just enjoying your life after #tenure. @academicsunite @academicchatter @academia_carnet
@rooster preach!
For heaven’s sake, SOMEone remind me not to apply for another grant for at least 5 years 😭
I have GOT to stop doing this to myself
