I'm not an immunologist, so don't ask me if COVID-induced immune dysregulation is what is causing the current crisis. But a strict reading of the available evidence compels me to assign a Bayesian probability of 50% to its likelihood. That's more than enough for me to try to avoid getting infected (and getting my child infected) at almost all costs.

“Local stores next to the protected bike lane have seen a 49% increase in sales, compared to an average of 3% for Manhattan as a whole.”

(plus they everyone safe.)

I just wanted to say how happy I am here at Mastodon. People here are decidedly human. Kind humans. Ones that are able to have a conversation without spewing propaganda. Ones that respect one another. Being here gives me hope that all isn't lost, and that there are enough of us to make the world brighter.

Please, everyone, keep this alive. We need discourse. We need kindness. We need each other.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the last time humans went to the Moon.

If you live on $30+ a day, you are part of the richest 15% of the world.

The poorest 50% - 4 billion people - live on less than $6.70 a day

All measures are adjusted for differences in purchasing power.

It's not about whether you personally want to or need to drive. It’s about understanding the simple truth that in cities, if everyone tries to move by car, no one moves much at all. So the more of us that are enticed to walk, bike & take transit, the better it is for EVERYONE.

Can you spot the circles?

It took me a long time. Once you see them, they'll seem obvious.

For years, the FBI targeted ecological activists as their #1 priority. This is one of the chief reasons environmental devastation has continued unchecked.

Seventeen years ago today, on December 7, 2005, the FBI opened a new phase of its assault on earth and animal liberation movements with the arrests and indictments of a large number of activists. This became known as the Green Scare.

You can read about it here:

In a text published today, one of the defendants, Daniel McGowan, recalls his arrest and first night in jail:

I'm constantly surprised at the number of people who are looking for lists of people to follow. There's no shortage of fascinating breadcrumb trails here.
Pick a toot that resonates with you and open it up. See who commented, or retooted it. Look at those people's profiles. Follow them.
Look at their older toots and follow the people whose comments on those toots pique your interest.
I've been here a month & have a global circle, not one of whom I knew before coming here. #IFollowTheCrumbs
