Shortly after #DougFord took office the provincially owned OPG sold the landmark Hearn Generating station on #Toronto's waterfront to developer & longtime PC donor Mario Cortellucci for a mere $16 million.
Ford's govt said "contaminated soil" justified the bargain-basement pricing.
However, OPG sold a similar site on Mississauga's waterfront for $275 million even though the land was also contaminated.
Hearn is a heritage site; the City was not consulted or offered the chance to buy it

Mario Cortellucci is one of the developers who attended Doug Ford’s daughter’s wedding and sat with him at the Ford family table. Shortly afterward, #DougFord appointed Cortellucci to the York Region Police Board. Mr. Cortellucci ran for an Italian senate seat in 2018 under a far-right coalition that supports anti-LGBTQ, anti-immigrant, & Islamophobic policies. Mr. Cortellucci also owns land adjacent to the Ford govt's proposed Hwy 413 and the #Greenbelt.

My daughter's teacher already gave her permission to wear her N95 100% of the time while indoors. She will only eat and drink outside! She will be the only one doing it, but will be allowed to do her own thing.

I also shared articles with her and asked if I could donate an air purifier for her classroom, and she said YES!

I'm so grateful!

Strangely, I also feel guilty, because I know so many other children will not have these same protections.

Appears Mr. Cortellucci and #DougFord have had a long & beneficial relationship. The Premier even went as far as rewriting the #Ontario provincial hospital-naming rules so he could truly honour his top donor by renaming Mackenzie Health to #Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.

Additionally, the hospital's west wing was named the DeGasperis Muzzo Tower after the DeGasperis [#greenbelt][#AuditorGeneralReport] family and the Muzzo family, owners of Marel Contractors.

The KingVaughan MPP has close ties with donors & developers who won the #greenbelt land lottery. Potentially dozens of school properties won’t ever hit the 'open market'.
Private, charter & religious-based schools also see opportunities to snap up public school lands

@cjmoorehead @gemelliz As someone who lives (and voted NDP) in one of those Conservative ridings with an ER that closed, I get the frustration over the turkeys voting for Thanksgiving. But people province-wide didn’t get out and vote. Until we have something other than 3 flavours of neo-liberalism to chose from, how do we compel folks to keep pushing that boulder up the hill? The apathy is real and I get why. I hope this all motivates better/more civic engagement. There’s so much to repair.

STUDY: In a highly vaccinated population (94% with >=3 vaccine doses), almost 20% of persons infected with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant reported symptoms consistent with Long COVID 90 days post diagnosis. Long COVID was associated with sustained negative impacts on work/study and a substantial utilisation of GP services 2-3 months after the acute illness.
