It's time to banish the notwithstanding clause, the slow killer of Canada's rule of law
> The only solution to the ominous threats posed by the increasing use of the notwithstanding clause is to amend Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
This is excellent. Thankyou!
So in addition to cluttering up low earth orbit, wrecking terrestrial astronomy, creating the potential for a Kessler Syndrome cascade which could close access to space, and creating a national security nightmare, Starlink internet access is a climate catastrophe using up to 30 times the carbon footprint per internet subscriber of land based internet.
Above average temperatures continued across the entire northern half of the Atlantic Ocean during September 2023. Temperatures were also anomalously warm over much of North and South America. The El Niño is of course striking too.

No, great teachers need adequate supplies, adequate support, a pay raise, and for parents to sit down and and butt out—not a Ted Baker vanity bag. Happy World Teachers’ Day y’all! #boots #TedBaker #teacher #WorldTeachersDay
They’re selling all this as some kind of failure to get kids for school… when it’s really a problem of the province starving schools for resources. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ocdsb-shortfall-1.6986654
The oil-soaked bird photo that shocked the world.
"On 20 April 2010, the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon exploded after a surge of natural gas blasted through its concrete core, spilling 795 million litres (210 million gallons) of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Louisiana. Two days later, the rig capsized and sank into a valley in the continental shelf."

I'm coming to a point in my life when my ambitions have shrunk, and it feels so glorious.
I am no longer ashamed to say that I love small things. Smaller communities have always been more meaningful to me. Small businesses, modest but achievable goals, political ideologies that scale to thousands instead of millions. My dreams are small enough for me to live inside.
It's my goal to live in such a way that my gravestone can say "she attended well and faithful to a few worthy things."
Lots of cities are getting rid of parking minimums. There are zero excuses for #ottawa not to do this. Every building approved with the bullshit .5 / .7 parking allowances makes the housing way less affordable now and even more so in the future. They are explicitly choosing to make your lives less affordable. Fund public transit. Fund it. Charge congestion fees. Stop building new fucking roads. The lack of urgency and maintenance of status quo is bullshit #ontario #affordablehousing
Watching the elephant 🐘 for any signs of rolling over, now that its legislative branch is headless and a handful of hard right wingers are holding the elephant’s democracy hostage. 😬

Paying a few dollars a month to use Twitter, which is run by a billionaire.
Donating a few dollars a month to help your Mastodon server, which is run by people who care about their communities.
Periodic reminder to check the "About" section on your Mastodon server to see if they have donation links. :)
Would you look at that.
DIY air purifiers are even more cost effective than we initially thought!
Looks like filters only need to be changed once during the school year for cr boxes. Which gives school facilities enough time over the summer to officially check each one!
