The #Brazilian president...telling the #UN that market liberalism had plagued #democracy and disfranchised millions, leaving them in poverty and prey to nationalist #totalitarianism.

“The 10 richest #billionaires have more wealth than the poorest 40% of humanity,” he said, adding that there was a lack of political will among those who governed the world “to overcome inequality”.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/19/world-inching-ever-closer-to-a-great-fracture-says-un-chief

Profit ruins everything. And it doesn’t even bring you efficiency, the greatest failure. It is way more efficient to build a society that is safer and better for its people than to tear the planet apart for wont of a greed pillage. We also don’t place our passions in an undeniable basket, no matter what a capitalist thinks. Because then we would give more than we take.

What is this need of humans?

I’m sorry but I don’t see “outing trans kids so parents can abuse them” on this list. Also, where is “making sure LGBTQ people are neither seen nor heard”. I was told that these issues were very important. #CdnPoli

“No university anywhere in the world would admit her.

No scientific society would grant her membership.

Still, Eunice Newton Foote (July 17, 1819–September 30, 1888) would go on to become the first scientist to link atmospheric carbon dioxide levels to rising planetary temperature.”

@girls_can @academicsunite @academicchatter @academia_carnet The problem is that everyone qualified to teach this knows to turn down the offer to do so 😂

It's simply *wrong* to think that mitigating #ClimateChange takes sacrifice. Mitigating climate change is 100% a benefit for humans AND our ways of living (but you have to think outside of the *box* to perceive it)

Reducing over-consumption means getting rid of polluting products & activities, unhealthy diets & air polluting vehicles.

For,  l wouldn't call using eBikes, electric buses & trains too much of a sacrifice

Are relatively rich folk spoilt? (🤬 if they can't have their friggin 🚘 )

Does your city really want to attract and keep families living in your downtown and urban places? REALLY?

Remember, there are 3 KEYS, in THIS ORDER:

1) ensure family-sized housing (2-3+ bedrooms);
2) build local daycare, schools & supports;
3) design the #publicrealm for kids.

Today it's Hong Kong.
158 mm of rain within 1 hour; the highest hourly rainfall in its 139-year record!
Climate change is water change.

Ok, ok… I recycle, I compost, I bring my own bag to the grocery store. But hear me out, what if maybe, just maybe, WE GET THE G-20 TO REDIRECT THE $1.3 TRILLION IN ANNUAL FOSSIL FUEL SUBSIDIES TOWARDS SOLAR, WIND, AND GEOTHERMAL?!?

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! (Gift link, no paywall)

Hey tweeps!
Are you aware of a evidence that reforms in scientific integrity, responsible scholarship, or #OpenScience have had measurable impact on the quality of science (broadly defined)?
@annaveer & I are looking information for a workshop we're putting together.

Thanks 🖤!
