People make some assumption if you don't have xyz before hand you can't study certain topics, which is probably true to a point but you can have a go anyway,

Lets raise expectations and aspirations.

#Pleroma -- my Blog post yesterday on Pleroma as an Alternative to Mastodon was surprisingly well received.

I have received messages from various people, asking for recommendations of good Pleroma instances to join.

And i am working on it. Serious. As I write here, I am logged in and chatting with friends I just met, all in various Pleroma nodes, that responded to my #introductions post there, thanking the admin for the service.

I will prepare a detailed Blog post, with more suggestions and reasons, but for now, kudos and a mention are appropriate.

I am finding Pleroma fantastic.

I knew it was fast, requires less resources. That instances are very responsive.

BUT — there’s so much more to like, to love.

Eugen won’t even consider raising the stupid 500 characters toot size limit, and I have asked, been denied various times.

Time to leave dead pre-historic animals in the Tundra, to fend for themselves.

Having mostly lurked for a few days, it seemed like it's time to make a quick #introduction. In real life I'm a sysadmin by day, UK based and working in the criminal justice sector. I enjoy tinkering with tech in whatever spare time I have, and Fosstodon looked like a perfect match. Starting to find my way in the Fediverse and beyond open-source I'm also hoping to explore my other interests around photography, sourdough, running, hiking, swimming, contemplating why I have no spare time, etc! 🤣

One of the great things about being a member of a team where everyone works part-time is that you get to find out about the awesome work colleagues are doing in other projects.

This is why i get irritated with schemes to help young people only , why are there not similar schemes to help others

code club is for 9 - 13 year olds, so I run this at my local library but the age is more 7+ now

However we have some lego WeDo kits which I am suggested we use with kids kids but also give other groups e.g an adult stroke group a chance to use too.

There is very little interest from one age group, take the resources and find a group who are, at least then we use the kit, for me it is about inclusion.

Thanks, Sphinx, I am only buying and planting veggies. And just returned, very low stock in the nurseries -- a lady told me they are sold out, many more people than usual came buying veggies this year.

Back to topic, my complete feature wishes on Mastodon:

1) Preview Post: I am a writer so this is a must.

2) Find Own Posts: I toot a lot my toots reached 2000 in a short period of time. Finding a certain toot became difficult.

3) Show Original Posts Exclusively: I want timeline to show only my original toots, not my boosts, not my replies, anytime I want.

4) Hover Cards: It saves my time & computer resources to follow/unfollow.

5) Numbers: Visible number of replies, shares, likes in toots.

QOTO differs from vanilla Mastodon in its post length limit. While we enjoy 64kchar of space, users on the flagship instance get only five hundred. So to post a longer message, a vanilla user will break it into chunks ≤500 characters each and post each chunk as a reply to the previous one. That "show thread" link pops up to make it clear the post is possibly dependent on another for context.

If you reply to a message from someone else, your reply isn't published to the local timeline (although it may show up in your followers' home timelines). Self-replies, however, do show up in the local timeline unless prevented by privacy settings. So the need to warn about hidden context is much less for cross-replies than for self-replies).

The Pina colour schemes are completely set up inside of it.

And -- if using more than one Pina instance, you have to do it again. I copied over, with the same colours, from the regular pina to the dev, Beta one I use now.
