@LukaszOlejnik I think Musk missed something vital. People pay for Linkedin because they get something in return (a job), but people go to Twitter (for lack of a better expression) to fart about. People won’t pay a recurring fee of $8 to fart about where there are free places to do the same.

apparently musk fired an entire infosec team.. today? and their role was 3rd party risk assessments as part of making assurances for advertisers, and validating sharing of user data.

@phant0msn4ke@silversword.online :NZAP89: that’s a Nintendo Zapper!!! A Zapper!!!

@CommodoreBlog that’s quite something! I’m amazed we don’t have FPS exclusive keyboards today. Or do we?

@phant0msn4ke@silversword.online I’d get it now. It is great value as it is.

Having a read through this issue of 'Your Computer' magazine from January 1982 ( UK ). It includes a review of the newly released BBC Micro computer along with lots of other interesting articles and program listings for the reader to type in. The adverts are always fun too!

And for people who want to use crosspost between Twitter and Mastodon automatically, I recommend Moa!

I joined Mastodon a bit over four years ago. Many of my generation seem to fear that Mastodon will become like Twitter with all the new people. I do not.

The idea seems to be that Mastodon is so nice because its people are nice. I believe most people are nice. Twitter has been set up in a way to make us into monsters and to make the worst monsters look like average folks.

The design choices of Mastodon do the reverse. We will become a bit more like Twitter, but mostly stay Mastodon by design.

@SaddlerFan for something Twitter’s size that’s very true. I guess Meta which is the ones that’s genuinely huge is too big to fail.

I wonder if Twitter is big enough that if it does go bust or collapse it could Eternal September a number of other online communities effectively taking everything that’s bad about Twitter elsewhere and causing a chain reaction.

There are under 400 million Twitter users and 200 million users use Twitter daily (minus bots etc…), this is small compared to Facebook’s close to 3 billion users. Twitter is in fact tiny being only the 15th largest social network. But is it big enough to cause chaos in other communities if it does disband?

I’m not writing this for drama or click bait, I simply want to know what your thoughts are. At some point, a large commercial social network will go bust and hundreds of millions if not billions of users will go looking for a new home. That’s potentially not just Eternal September but Nuclear September for other social media sites and online communities.

Thoughts?

@thrick retroTINKs work really well too for connecting to a modern TV.

I remember Mastodon being a quiet place, an exclusive club with only a handful of members. Now, look at this place!

@apt just checked again from home. It is my phone provider that does, at home it connects fine. And I get a message from the provider that it has been blocked for security reasons. This is the explanation: malwarebytes.com/blog/detectio

@karlequin hi there :) I felt the same at the start given that my intended theme here was video gaming and not academics. I still ended up doing an intro to what could be my temporary neighbours. Or permanent, you never know. I like it here.
