@EighthLayer I’m generally not too keen on the retro term for gaming, despite the fact that I do use it. I see gaming as having happened in periods, eg: pong style games, single screen arcade games, platform games, early 3D games, etc…
That's it, the Twitter account is gone. I couldn't keep a clear conscience and stay there, even with it not being my main account. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can ignore Musk's actions but the way he's treated people who worked for him and the kind of people he's replatforming - I can't.
@stephenfry is this not satire? 😳
Almost 180k new users joined #mastodon yesterday, a new record. This third #twitterMigration wave happened after Musk's Twitter 2.0 ultimatum to #Twitter workers. Each wave is stronger than the previous one. Here is my updated plot showing the three consecutive waves.
@shauncuff I downsized my phone to an iPhone SE and I’m not missing the big screen.
@shauncuff it is a shame, because small watches are more comfortable.
Much like cars over the decades, watches have generally become larger and chunkier too.
#Casio’s first Databank Calculator watch, the DBC 600 released in 1985 and Casio’s (to date) last Databank Calculator watch, the DBC-32D, released in 2004.
Thanks to Elon’s obsession with retaining employees who contributed the most lines of code, I keep getting reminded of a classic Hindi play from 1881, Bharatendu Harishchandra’s Andher Nagari.
Andher Nagari (darkness / ignorance city) is ruled by Chaupat Raja (literally, useless king), who ordered that vegetables and sweets would both cost a taka a ser (or a penny a pound) in his kingdom.
A fat monk sees this and decides to stay in the city, stuffing himself with expensive sweets sold at a penny a pound, though his guru warns him to move on, it is dangerous to stay in a place ruled by such a king.
The final act is that when a wall collapses and kills someone’s ass, the king orders the house owner to hang. He blames the builder who built the wall. The builder blames the bricklayer, who blames the guy that poured too much water into the cement. When the water guy is brought in for hanging, he says he was distracted by the police chief who was marching his men down the road. So the police chief is sentenced to hang.
Problem is he’s skinny and thanks to the king all the ropes are tied in the same standard noose size, too large for the man’s neck. So the king orders them to hang the first fat man they see, and that is the fat monk, who is rudely shaken out of his sleep after a big lunch.
As the monk is about to hang, his guru arrives and begs the king to hang him instead, because, he claims, whoever hangs in the city on that day would be reborn as its next king.
The king believes the guru and .. sentences himself to death.
@gpowerf Love that little PC Engine you have there! I've just got hold of a tiny Retroflag/RetroPi SNES, its definitely the cutest gaming device Ive ever owned (and it knows it!)
#Mastodon features that #Twitter doesn’t have:
* Temporary muting (e.g. for a day)
* Self-verified URLs in the profile
* Hiding spoilers etc. via content warnings
* URLs must start with protocols (fewer false positives, e.g. in code).
* Everyone can edit posts (in v4+).
* No ads (which doesn’t come for free = donate if you can afford it)
More obscure: I like that you can search for post URLs to “transfer” them between accounts.
This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.
