@freemo @gpowerf That would surely expose you to a whole lot more of it, but as i said it's perspective, the way we interact is also different with things. As @gpowerf said there are many variables to take into account.

I think one thing QOTO has going for it, in favor of making things less hostile is that we have more than 1k words to express our opinions, so we are in a much better and more complex environment which allows for a better expression of our beliefs.

@freemo @SypherNight yeah, you are a bigger target than me. Here I'm just a guy talking about games.

@SypherNight @freemo there are many variables. One thing I didn't consider is that I've been mega-block-happy here :( maybe due to bird site trauma, but I blocked at the first sniff of trouble.

I saw a developer today.

No company swag hoodie.
No stickers on their laptop.
No mechanical keyboard.
No Windows or macOS.
No ChatGPT or Copilot.

He just sat there. He was typing code away in vim running on Arch Linux and an older ThinkPad, like a psychopath.

@freemo it took me a long time to choose a server! I eventually gravitated to qoto because I liked the description of it, it sounded like a place that respected free speech and was populated by people who largely wanted to do good and discuss their academic work.

Seems like I made a good choice!

@freemo maybe my perspective is skewed because I've only ever existed in qoto.

I’ve noticed that a common default mode for communication on social networks like , , , etc. is to be aggressive towards others. It doesn’t matter how innocent or positive a post is; it could always be met by immediate and relentless aggression from some users. For instance, if someone posts “I really love this game” on one of these platforms, they might get responses that accuse them of having deep character flaws because no normal person could like that game. This kind of behavior is very discouraging and stressful for anyone who wants to share their opinions or interests online. This doesn’t tend to happen on most servers, where the communication is more civil and respectful. If people disagree with something on Mastodon, they either go away quietly or simply point it out politely without insulting or harassing the other person. The world should be more like Mastodon and less like other social networks where aggression is the norm.

I dont have much to opine but this is both a tragic and hugely interesting topic to follow. Schools don’t want the inspections and school have started to actively avoid talking or writing about Ofsted ratings. I’ve always taken the ratings with a massive pinch of salt, but will others do the same now when schools are actively calling for their cancellation as well as seemingly ignoring Ofsted outcomes? bbc.co.uk/news/education-65055

My workmate came back from Japan recently and showed us this, found in a 7eleven there.

It just gets more perplexing the more you look at it.

@mlohbihler @therobburgessshow I can only imagine what an AI language model trained on Twitter would be like. Goodness. The absolute worst of humanity packed in an artificial brain… we need a movie script for this.

This article says the Right to Repair law would make it a requirement for computer hardware and to be reparable for 10 years. Does a with out of support mean it is broken? Will Google have to increase the support window to 10 years for Euro Chromebooks? theregister.com/2023/03/22/new

@ArneBab

And how many clever #Startups did we see that loudly claimed they'd soon launch the Killer #SocialMedia platform?

Only to bitterly fail after a while.

#Fediverse went super slowly in how it emerged. It took years. But these years were needed to get a great #culture between fedizens around the world come about.

All the while #FOSS principles and values drove software development, and with no monetary incentives, the human side was kept within focus while doing so. We're human-scale.
