This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.

Turning an Atari 2600 into a computer...
I just came across this interesting bit of computing history.
Back in 1982, there was a peripheral that turned an Atari 2600 into an (incredibly simple, ZX-Spectrum level) home computer, including a keyboard, BASIC, and cadette support.
But the addon is/was incredibly rare, and there's very little information about it online.
So it's interesting to see there's now a video up on YouTube profiling this device (known as a Spectravideo CompuMate) and how it works...

But seriously, focusing 100% on Mastodon is an intrinsically bad idea.
For one thing, if everyone depends on one thing, we become a monoculture—which becomes a vector for re-centralization.
You need diverse server software, front-ends, and clients to develop a healthy Fediverse ecosystem.
Diversity is good!

Just got a comment from a fellow chastising me for talking about the Fediverse beyond Mastodon.
He thinks we’re dropping the ball on Twitter migration by not focusing 100% on Mastodon.
However, 30% of the Fediverse doesn’t run on Mastodon.
Some server software, like Friendica, was on the Fediverse 6 years before Mastodon was created.
Sorry we’re not shutting things down just because Twitter migrants recently showed up.

I upgraded my main laptop to #Fedora 38. One click in the Software Center, it downloaded everything in about 5 minutes, and the upgrade itself took around the same amount of time. Everything works after rebooting, except the Quick Settings Tweaker and Dark mode switcher extensions, which are not crucial, so I’d say it was pretty damn smooth! I’m always amazed at how simple our desktops have become these days…
Will upgrade the desktop today as well!
I have met many wealthy and successful people in my life, but some of the unhappiest people I have ever met are also among them.
I believe that this is because they are driven by greed. Greed is a powerful motivator, but it can also be a destructive force. I believe that finding joy and contentment in life requires more than just money and recognition. It requires a different kind of motivation than greed... contentment comes from within.
@jonn_blanchard Littering is one of the worse offences! Really makes me angry that people don't care for their immediate surroundings, I treat my city like I treat my house. I can only imagine that those who litter live in absolute squalor at home.
"I often regret that I have spoken; never that I have been silent."

The next time you are about to speak, take a moment to think about the consequences of your words. Are you sure that what you are about to say is worth saying? Are you sure that it will not hurt or offend anyone? If you are not sure, it is better to remain silent.
@f4grx old and new, perfect blend :)
@MissingThePt Betamax rental is still going though, right? I'm all about Betamax.
Has anyone trained an #AILanguageModel to do Commodore 64 BASIC V2 and 6510 assembly?
If you have let me know :) You have a potential paid user here. #retrocomputing

My Tank mice have arrived, along with 2 USB-DB9 adaptors which support the Amiga, C64 & Atari ST (don't have any Atari's).
They are wireless but the receivers are stored inside each mouse

@ben seems OK. I think this is the motor going in: https://www.sea-electric.com/products/sea-drive-70-power-system/
516 lb-ft!!! Only 190 miles range though, so not yet suitable for leisure activities like camping, overlanding, etc…
