Google Bard sides with the Justice Department in the Google antitrust case

“I hope that the court will find in favor of the Justice Department and order Google to take steps to break up its monopoly”

(Sees 20 year old black floppy disk with the words DEATH BRINGER scrawled on it, immediately shoves into machine)

Finally done! I have completed the restoration of an O.G. Macintosh that was upgraded to a Macintosh Plus in the mid-1980s!

when I was 15 years old, I got a summer job at the first ISP launched in the far north of canada. i worked in the hardware servicing and deployment area, and did tech support with clients over the phone

for weeks I was enamoured with a massive #VisualBasic box that sat on the shelf. it had to weigh 10+ lbs, and was loaded with manuals. no one seemed to care, so I borrowed a few of the manuals and started reading them over lunch.

my boss must have noticed, and asked me if I was interested in learning how to program. for the next two months he spent weeknights teaching me how to code after the staff went home.

i spent the entire summer of 1995 building a photo library/database tool just for kicks. after that, a visual TCP/IP based chat program called Smalltima Online. 😅

that summer gave me the conceptual foundation for building user-driven experiences a decade later. thank you jeff🙏

i picked up this chonker a couple of years ago just for the memories. 🥰

@arstechnica the end of the second muscle car era is spectacular! 196x-1971 was good, the 2020s is unbelievable!

If Bard is good it is bye bye Bing for me. Lobotomised Bing is not very useful.

@nutjob4life I feel your pain :( I have a printer that just refuses to work with MacOS or ChromeOS... Pop!_OS is fine thankfully.

@solarisfire and to be honest not too bad. We are at a point where AI arguably beats most humans at stuff like this, at least it identified it was Pig Latin, even if it made one boo boo.

@arstechnica Microsoft going the mobile route is hugely exciting! At least for me, phones, tables, and Chromebooks are gaming devices that could do with more AAA support. There's no reason why they shouldn't see more console like releases.

@Themcfluffy it is an OK game set in a really cool-looking world. I really enjoyed it and it was the game that took me to Stadia, ran really well on Stadia.
