Media are calling the Fediverse a failure because they want it to fail—and they believe if they repeat the same narrative, it will some day come true.
But they were wrong about the Internet in 1995 when they called it a novelty.
They were wrong about social media in 2008 when they called it a fad.
They are wrong about the Fediverse now.

Made a little Python script that pulls your current Mastodon follower count and updates a sensor in Home Assistant with the number every 30 mins. It’s all wrapped up in a Docker image. Would anyone be interested if I was to release it? #docker #python #weekendproject
@ezcontents wow this is cool 👍 let’s hope it isn’t too expensive 😀

It's interesting that a completely nonprofit social media protocol with 11,000,000 users is being deemed a "failure" by some tech media pundits. But also, they make their bones by reporting on corporate drama, stock moves, creeping dark patterns, surveillance, etc.
So, actually, of course they're uninterested in a smallish, boring, mostly-just-working social media project.
This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.
