If you make a README.me for your GitHub profile, you can’t use it yet as #verification here because Github removes the REL=ME attributes. However, if you edit your actual profile on GitHub, and put your #Mastodon site as your homepage (that’s the one with the chain link) it will use REL=ME for that link, which means you can verify your GitHub. See my about profile for all three of my verified links!
https://youtu.be/CqkhjL3WvWQ This 15-minute video is an even-handed overview of what Meta is trying to accomplish by pouring so much money into VR development.
I can see some appealing ideas here. Making Zoom meetings less dreary would be a big plus. And getting as many virtual screens as you want, as big as you want? I like that. Uncomfortable headsets detract from that significantly, but maybe in ten years that won't be a problem. (thread) #vr #meta
Acorn Archimedes A3010, released in 1992.
Part of the line of Archimedes computers, successors of the BBC Micro.
Its ARM2 processor was one of the first commercially successful RISC processors. Designed by Sophie Wilson and Steve Furber, its descendants now power most of the mobile devices around the world.
Competitor to the Amiga and Atari ST, it was the most powerful home computer of the early 90s but its high price tag limited its success.
It is, and always was about the money. Which is even sadder, because it looks like with the reduced number of ads, and IAP on iOS and Android, Twitter might LOSE money for each 8$ paying customer.
Genius business, breaking what was working without fixing what was broken.
I'm going to throw this out here...
I've got an amazing Linux/Unix admin with some security consulting experience that is looking for work, and he needs a Christmas Miracle.
If anyone has leads for a guy like this, I'll vouch for him... he used to work for me, and is whip smart.
I'd hire him again, but my hands are currently tied on hiring.
Seeing lots of excitement about the #MIT instance (@mastodon.mit.edu) and ppl wanting to set up their own university instances. but very important--the MIT instance is entirely volunteer run and is NOT associated with uni admin. universities are massive PR machines (literally hedge funds with a bunch of academics attached) and will not hesitate to co-opt a grass-roots community associated with their brand. If you want to start your own uni instance, DO NOT let uni admin get involved!!
If you want to join us on the QOTO matrix server (A chat room server that is federated like here) then check out this post. IT has some spaces you can join to find some interesting rooms to be a part of, all active rooms.
Tonight I played some games bouncing around between Halo Infinite, Bayonetta, and Sonic Frontiers. #gaming
Did you play anything?
I really couldn't resist! I had to buy Sonic Frontiers. #gaming
For anyone interested, we have a chat room and matrix server for QOTO. Its usually not very active from now until about 10 hours from now, but the rest of the day me and a few people are active there.
Anyway, if anyone wants to join us and get a free account on our matrix server (it federates too so you can talk to and join rooms on other servers) then please do so, you are all welcome.
Here is the room, just register then follow this link:
Thoughts on responsible redesign of @bbcmicrobot for the #fediverse:
1) CWs for animated content. Most is fine but flashing graphics can be annoying even harmful
2) Externally hosting video content to reduce burden on our host instance. PeerTube? Will start image-only and investigate.
3) Bot called and replies on the #bbcmicrobot tag so it’s easy to follow and filter.
Would love to hear the views of more experienced community members on this
This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.
