It's been a while since I fired up my #MiSTer FPGA, so this evening I finally managed to get around to testing the #BliSTer add-on board. Among other things, this board allows you to plug in many original controllers and use them with the cores available on the MiSTer. Here I'm failing at Impossible Mission 2 on the #Amiga core using my #TheArcade #joystick.

#retrogaming

3 OSs that I remember fondly:

* MS DOS 6.x: I played so many DOS games back in the day, I did how coding projects in Turbo PASCAL and Quick BASIC too and I have lots of fun memories of DOS back then.

* RISC OS: Acorn computers at school used RISC OS and I loved it! It looked so futuristic compared to Windows. Fun memories again.

* Windows 3.11 for Workgroups: I used this version of Windows a lot and even worked during one summer setting up computers at a lab with Windows 3.11 for Workgroups.

This is killing me, maybe #retrogaming fediverse can help?

My partner and I are re-watching X-Files and we just got to the episode "Unusual Suspects" (S5E03, 1997). A man is seen playing Dig Dug. The episode is set in 1989 and he appears to be playing on PC... The footage doesn't look mocked up, but the version doesn't appear to exist?

The gameplay footage looks arcade-perfect, but truncated vertically and with a side-panel like many home conversions. Did they really go to that much effort?

I’m going to be amazed if this actually works. I don’t trust my skills with this one bit.

That’s at best half of this Prusa Mini+ assembled in about 4 hours, with a dinner break.

Am I the only one who finds tech launch events really cringy? Even Apple events which are supposed to be the best…

Running NES games the Steam Deck has great battery life, I think when I take it with me on travels I may just NES and 2600 games on the flight.

Whoever named the feature "git blame" and not "whose line is it anyway" missed a great opportunity…

The use of language models will bring significant changes to our work in the near future, and I am eager to witness them. I am also keen to learn how we will tackle the security, data privacy, and ethical issues that they bring. Additionally, I am extremely keen to watch the competition between companies that rapidly adopt AI and those that initially resist it. I say "initially" because I predict that eventually, everyone will have to use AI to remain competitive.

Bird site

So now users of the bird site won't even be able to vote unless they pay Elon's blue extortion fee.

One of me Steam Decks is doing that thing were it just won't stay asleep...or shutdown. Keeps loading back up. Quite frustrating.

Wow, so Twitter will actually not show you anyone who hasn’t paid for Blue in its recommendation feed (which is the default, and seems to be set back to the default regularly even if you changed it manually).

That’s not going to annoy people at all. I’m guessing we’re not going to see another spike of Mastodon users.
