Hey any journalists on here plz turn your public post indexing on, because most of you haven't and thats why people looking for public information cant find you.

Go to settings > public profile > privacy and reach, select "include public posts in search results"

Not all the fedi wants to be a public space, and thats fine, but some parts should be right now.

If you finally found the solution to your coding problem in a deep comment or something after having dozens of tabs open, you should write about it in your own blog.

Really. Describe the problem in your own words and the solution for it, even if the solution seems really obvious now. Doesn’t matter. Give credit and whatever, but use your own words because you will be surprised at how many people will land on it.

Write the blog post you wish you had found.

The crux of it: my content doesn’t matter to Meta, as they don’t think they can monetise it. My friends’ content doesn’t matter to Meta for the same reason.

So they don’t see my content, I don’t see their content.

We see big influencers’ content. And paid ads.

The network gets less relevant. We login less. So the problem compounds…

It’s basically a static site generator for interactive maps. Tile servers are pretty much obsolete now. No database needed, you can run your interactive, smooth-zooming vector map from any HTTP storage. S3, Caddy running on your Wi-Fi router, even GitHub pages.

Kevin Kruse departs from Twitter/X after making two observations many of us have similarly encountered

1. Being on Twitter now makes you less informed given how much content from grifters and goons is promoted by the algorithm or shows up in your replies.

2. Having lots of followers doesn’t matter because most of them are gone. You get more engagement and higher quality replies on Threads or Mastodon.

For all its faults, Mastodon is the better platform for people who care about having control over their data. It's definitely not perfect in that regard either, but at least it tries.

Also, it has GIFs and videos and polls. Based on BlueSky's dev velocity, they'll have that sometime 2032.

Just wanna say, team: fuck Bluesky and Twitter. The support I get for my work here on Masto is so much better. There’s a culture of boosting stuff we love and I appreciate it so much, as a creative person who relies on shares to bring in new readers and ultimately pay my bills, and invoices from other creative people.
