@mattblaze same. for news I partially solved this by following a number of news bots which mirror major news orgs from twitter. but it would certainly be better if those news orgs set up direct Mastodon presence. there are a few. @nbcnews is here and some WaPo reporters were saying that it is considering setting up an instance but that hasn't happened yet.

I thought Ukrainian President Zelensky’s speech - in English - to Congress was terrific and inspiring. His presentation to of a battle flag signed by Ukrainian troops and receipt of an American flag from Speaker Pelosi was a brilliant gesture.

#Russia is absolutely not afraid of NATO invading/ attacking it. Putin was never afraid of that and he isn't afraid of it even now. When he proclaims that NATO is a threat to Russia what he means is that it's a shield against expanding Russia's sphere of domination to the area Putin feels entitled to. Sweden and Finland were never really in that area which is why he doesn't particularly care whethere they join NATO or not. But #Ukraine is a **completely** different story. The "security" guarantee he wants is a guarantee to do whatever he wants in Eastern Europe, Ukraine most of all. This should never be granted in any shape or form.

George Hotz is an experienced coder / "lone wolf" type of hacker who joined Twitter to "fix search" in 12 weeks. 4 weeks later, he's thrown in the towel, with nothing of real impact shipped.
To me, this shows the difference between software engineering - aka working with complexity - and how "just" being good at coding is not what is needed at a place like Twitter, to succeed.
And yet, New Twitter has incentives set to only reward coding, not software engineering.
