@SarahQuinn amen. I am exhausted today like i ran a race
So at the risk of raising ire, here's a 2 hour long exposure showing Tuesday night's lunar eclipse as seen from Portobello in New Zealand. I quite like the colour visible in the reflection of the moon on Otago Harbour. #lunareclipse #astronomy
#Feditip #Newhere #Twittermigration for those new here, be aware the trolls from Twitter are starting instances to try and attack us with. When you get tagged in by said trolls, DON'T ENGAGE! Report them using the tool, THEN name/@/server.instance <- like that rather than tagging them. Also tag in #Fediblock so the various admins monitoring know to block the full instance if it's a troll farm. Do your part right to keep this community going strong!
@ceiberman @Herring1967 thanks for this
@Herring1967 I found this explanation very useful when I got here a few days ago.
I wish I could remember who boosted it, so I could thank them again.
@freemo thank you for all that you’re done and are doing
@MunkyBone YouTube‘a Guy in a Cube taught me a lot
I don't say this that often about Microsoft products, but I absolutely love #PowerBI.
After dealing with SAP Business Objects for years, with all its overhead and nonsense, Power BI is just so clean and slick.
I can tear apart a dataset and make it make sense faster than ever before. It has #Python and #R integration. You can import in custom visuals. The #DAX coding is not so bad at all.
It is a wonderful experience so far.
@robin YouTube’s Guy in a Cube is a fantastic series /set
Playing around with #PowerBI for work. Could definite use a good tutorial on the data transformation side, but for now I’ll experiment and see what works.
The best way to start is to outline what business questions you want answers to and work from there. Should be fun.
Busy day today but I was able to spend a good chunk of it working with #PowerBI, transforming and loading my data sets and putting together the visuals that help answer my team’s business questions.
#30DayMapChallenge | Day 3 | #Polygons
#PowerBI #MapBox
This looks like a point map, but zoom in (way, way in) and you'll see it's actually an super-detailed polygon map.
The topic is deforestation in Brazil, over 2019-2020. A large spatial dataset was available (~50,000 shapes per year), which I integrated into a Power BI dataviz. The "hero" visualisation uses Mapbox's choropleth feature.
The whole dataviz is interactive - filtering or selecting part of any visual cross-filters the others, including re-drawing the map. This is where Power BI + MapBox are so impressive together.
I went with a satellite background layer, to highlight the natural features being impacted. Red was the obvious colour for the fire shapes, which I used for each shape's outline. As you zoom in, you can see the shape fill represents the class of deforestation.
This project was quite technically challenging, but I was quite happy with the end result, and it was of some use to at least one NGO working on this topic.

This may sound weird to some of you, but today, I spent more time being productive at work then I did being engaged with the Mastodon / federated community. Felt good! #powerbi (not my favorite, but it's paying bills!)
Tomorrow I'll be tweaking some #python to improve an #azurefunction that selects files and delivers them somewhere. (Vagueness for confidentiality!)
But I _am_ enjoying the community. Even if I cannot use #markdown in my posts like I really want to...
Hey mastodon, can I tell you about my favorite #Neanderthal and what he has taught me about #DisabilityRights?
(A thread, assuming I figure out threading!)
I see that you are enjoying #breakfast. You may not be aware that I too enjoy breakfast. #Gracie #dogs #dogsOfMastodon #doggies
