You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat those subordinate to them as well as how they treat animals. Never trust anyone who is rude to a maid or wait staff, nor one who is uncaring or cruel to animals. Never trust anyone who ridicules those less able than themselves nor one who revels in their power over others.
@steve @pwgtennant @hikenwoodwork It is a practical issue, and I think what we as users need to do is to propose easily operable criteria (if they were to be changed at all). What I don't like is when well-known tropes such as ivory towers, gatekeeping etc are simply re-iterated. On that note, I suggest that everyone drop their explicit mention of "PhD" or "Dr" in their profile names for the sake of less academic fence building and more inclusiveness 🙂

Etc, etc.
The industry of US home appraisals is super racist. So a home appraiser will appraise a home for less if they think Black people live there. So that racism affects the value of your home.
You can solve this problem by:
A) Using even more racism to keep Black families out of the neighbourhood. Double down! 😃
B) Reducing racism, and holding racist home appraisers accountable.
We should choose B.
I'm 64 and lived *under* Jim Crow and fully legal segregation. In many ways things have changed, but the inherent racism we face remains, often as strong as ever.
Defending the indefensible, like saying politician X or person Y isn't racist because they don't use certain words, is absolutely racism at work.
It's insidious and (nearly?) as prevalent as ever.
And it exists everywhere, thanks to colonialism.
If someone isn't anti-racist, then what, exactly, are they, logically?
This sunset from about a week ago was the best of the year. From this vantage point in Grand Marais, the sunset covered all of Lake Superior and the mountains surrounding it.

I love that analogy! Just because they're not wearing white hoods and robes doesn't mean we're still not getting lynched.
I see the majority of the Supreme Court in their black robes and Congresspersons and others with political power in their suits, viciously attacking us.
Different uniforms, too often the same results.
@steelman @hikenwoodwork wait, I've been exactly there where you are now :D

I used a slot cutter on the router, something like this: https://www.fine-tools.com/scheibennutfraeser.html
@steelman You could make up a kerfing plane with a fence from some offcuts and two offcuts from an old bandsaw blade in about a half-hour that would make that task a lot easier and more repeatable. I can't think of any other tool that would work for that size and length of cut in endgrain - frame saws would be hard to get aligned, router bits that thin would not cut that deep, I don't think you can get circular saw blades that thin, scratch stocks and cutting gauges wouldn't go that deep...
Misty one this morning. Splendid walk with the hound and I’m now sitting by a roaring fire, feeling restful. Wishing you all a gentle day.

@dm @hikenwoodwork I'am not saying no, but holding a 30×120 cm board perfectly vertical and moving it isn't that easy. Yes, clamping to a larger block will help. Worth considering. Thanks.
@hikenwoodwork that's the problem I am trying to solve (-; there are small (30 mm diameter) circular saw blades, but they are low rpm (1000-2000) and I've got high rpm (>5000) router. I'd have to build a jig to hold an electric drill. doable, but maybe too complicated for a one-off diy project.

Just a reminder that - per usual - Black women were the defenders of democracy this election cycle. Pay some respect.
