#ThickTrunkTuesday

One of my fav trees. General Sherman, a giant sequoia located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, California

Makes one seem small in this trees presence. Used to go see this wonderful trees all the time a kid.

#Introduction Hello. I'm a law prof, a philosopher, a progressive. I've deactivated #twitter and am searching for a new place to learn and to think out loud. #politics #law #democracy #elections #art #literature #history #science #books

Today's #FairyTaleTuesday theme is mountains and deserts.

A legend from Morocco says that when people told the very first lie in the world God decided to create a grain of sand every time someone tells a lie.
People did not heed the warning, and the Sahara has been expanding ever since...

When people look for an image of Eigg the internet often shows our neighbouring Isle of Rum, taken from Laig Bay on Eigg. It's not surprising really - our west coast sunsets are spectacular. And when the tide is out, the sun reflects across the sandy beach, making our whole world golden.

One of the people I'll genuinely miss from the bird app is Dr. Glaucomflecken. If you haven't seen his videos, which center on the ridiculous nature of the US Healthcare system, take a look at his YouTube channel. It's gold:

Going out to all my fellow #GenX folk on here (which is most of Mastodon, it seems).

Just figured out how to add a banner photo ! Thanks @Botany_beck (who you should all follow by the way). My banner is the whacky #fungus Orange Porecap (Favolaschia claudopus). A traveler from distant lands, which is now very at home in the mild #woodlands of #Cornwall.

Hi Mastodon! I'm an epidemiologist and disease ecologist interested in #scicomm, currently leading microbiological risk assessment at the UK Food Standards Agency. I have a background in vector- and (more recently) food-borne disease, particularly viruses, and an interest in food more generally. I'll be sharing interesting research and issues around food, risk and epidemiology. Please say hi - especially old friends from Twitter, it'll take a while to find you all!

Years ago, I worked for a company where one of the owners drank coffee all day, every day, and lots of it. I was the only other employee who drank some too. When he retired there wasn't enough call for the coffee machine to be used so it was put into storage but when I got married a few years later a colleague suggested the company give me the coffee machine as a gift. I still use it now, 14 years later. It's a wonderful machine and it makes the best filter coffee.

Really happy to spot these fab Earthtongues at my favourite local #excolliery! Deceptive Earthtongue, Geoglossum fallax I think but very happy to be corrected! 🖤

Have you ever seen an oak tree dance?

Britain is full of 'lost' rainforests, predominantly in the southwest and northwest of England, west Wales and the west coast of Scotland. There are other areas where the conditions are perfect too, like this one in the Peak District National Park.

When the rain starts and the cloud base drops into the rainforest, the trees come alive. Everywhere you look, there is magic and mystery.

on Friday, a #mentor of mine told me how #brave I was to leave my #tenured position - how it #inspired her to rethink the next season of her life. I share because it meant SO much to me. It's also a reminder that #mentorship is not unidirectional. Thx Beth 💜
