One morning on my way to work. Luckely, I had my camera with me.
This optical phenomon only appears under special conditions: It has to be cold, #sunrise (as this #photo) or #sunset. Light pillars develop as a result of ice crystals slowly falling through the air, reflecting the sun's rays off of them.
It's a magical view.

Evidently we're finally getting some rain and wind. Coastal flooding expected due to storm force winds and high tide coinciding, particularly Baranof Island (Sitka) and Kruzof Island (next door.) Not sure I believe it - forecasts have been off lately.
The Sea Bear (our fishing boat) is well tied at the harbor. Going to be a bumpy day.
In honor of the Sea Bear and Christmas: a sunrise from the deck back in 2018.

You certainly don't get #skies quite like this here in the UK! This is me under the spectacular #starry skies above the #ESO #LaSilla #Observatory in #Chile. Above and to the right you can see the Large and Small #MagellanicClouds. These are relatively small galaxies that orbit our #MilkyWay #Galaxy. Literally galaxy moons!
So that's pretty much it. It's relatively easy to befriend crows, and it's endlessly rewarding. I hope that a few of you are able to make crow friends of your own, and I look forward to hearing about your adventures with them.
He talked about electric cars. I don't know anything about cars, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.
Then he talked about rockets. I don't know anything about rockets, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.
Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software and Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit anyone's ever said, so when people say he's a genius I figured I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.
Merry Christmas everyone, I hope it's a fantastic day and Santa is very good to you x #scotland #christmas #winter #photography #snow
@stux If you really want to learn to draw, buy the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain & do the exercises. It can’t make you creative but it can teach you to draw anything. Well anything that sticks around.😉 Merry Christmas #Cats for #Christmas
@lolennui @dansinker I read Night Shift before I was ten.
@lolennui Night Shift, particularly the BoogeyMan story. Still think about that one
@owlislost @lolennui @Lowie I think my favorite things about Skeleton Crew is that Sai King talks about how he got the idea for each story. I've seen Neil Gaiman (another author I love) do something similar. I wish that was more common. #StephenKing #Bookstodon #reading
@lolennui It was one of his short stories for me. The Raft. I’m uneasy in lakes to this day, just in case there is a black blob. 😳
@lolennui so true. Pet Cemetery.
Visited Tenby in South Wales for the first time (such a lovely place) and got treated to a proper moody sunset before the rain set in.
Taken on the iPhone 14 Pro – constantly impressed with the quality of the photos on this thing!
So, I'm finding out the hard way that if you start a new Mastodon server, nobody can find you.
This is a shameless request for some boosts so some of the bigger instances see me.

The pot pictured below is one of my favourite pit fired pieces of pottery. .
Pit firing is the original method for firing clay pots and dates back 30,000 years. Colouration comes from combustible materials that are burned. As these materials burn, vapours are released. Hot pots, still porous take the colour.
I do a pit firing once a year and I love feeling connected to the dawn of my chosen craft.
