I own a relatively small telescope, with 300-m focal length, only. For many objects this is too short. On the other hand, it allows me to take some nice wide-angle #AstroPhotography shots.
For example, I can image the Cygnus Loop in one go. Here is a preliminary result, using a dual-narrowband filter (H-alpha, OIII), with only basic processing applied. The Moon was too bright to also take an RGB image, so the star colors are wrong. Need to invest more time...
Walking back from a meeting and striking to see Mars almost exactly midway between the horns of Taurus. Only iPhone with me so not a great photo!! #astronomy #Astrodon #astrophotography #Space
Moon projected onto white business card after removing eyepiece from 8 inch Dobsonian telescope. Sharp and bright.

Some widefield goodness across the area of #Cygnus and #Cepheus. This is with my 35mm Samyang at F2.8 using a H-Alpha filter and a total of 8 hours integration. I use this piggy back on my main scope so its kinda free which is nice 🙂 see how many of the famous nebula you can spot. #astrodon #astrophotography #nebula #narrowband #astronomy #space #sky
Star shot from last night. It was a 4 minute exposure, so I guess that was a satellite on the bottom left? #stars #astrophotography
Cederblad 214 as seen from my driveway, around 54 hours total exposure time.

Two weeks ago, Canadian #astronaut Dave Williams and I released our latest #book: "Why Am I Taller? What Happens to an Astronaut’s Body in Space."
It's a fun romp through #space and #spacemedicine with a literal space doctor (that would be Dave; I'm a space journalist.) I'd love to see our book appear in more #libraries, so do make a request at your local! Or, if you want a copy, do support your local bookstore. :)

Morning everyone! Here’s another #space #picture for you all! This one is the Cygnus wall, it’s a part of the recognisable North America Nebula . It is an area of star formation which is about 20 light years long! I used a Dual band narrowband filter to cut through the Birmingham light pollution and moonlight to capture this shot
Scope was my 200mm f/5 Altair newt aka big bucket! Camera was the awesome Altair hypercam 26C

IC405, the Flaming Star Nebula in the constellation Auriga. I shot the image almost two years ago from my garden in Altenberg / Austria. The cam was an uncooled Canon RA on a 200/800 newtonian with a dual narrowband filter. Total integration time was around four hours. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #galaxy #universe #milkyway
I always try and photograph Mercury at each of its apparitions.
I've been a bit obsessed with spotting the innermost planet ever since I got The Night Sky Ladybird book as a boy and there was an illustration of Venus and Mercury saying how hard it was to spot Mercury.
This photo is to date the only image I've had shown on the Sky at Night television programme. It was taken on 17th May 2007 and was shown on the programme in 2012. #astronomy #astrophotography #mercury #space #Astrodon
The day's efforts after refining my planetary imaging skills..
If only skies actually would clear now. 😢
@JJBG Thanks! Agreed, this might be useful for a lot of things besides Mars landings!
Playing around with some of my data for the talk next week.....and wow. Been tough to pick up the cloud bands on Saturn..

Well hello there Mastodon! I am new here, and don't understand anything about this. But I do understand a lot about #astrophotography !
Here is my most recent image, to start with a bang! This is the Rosette Nebula, shot with OSC, edited as Hubble Palette.
Let's see how this new medium will carry on. May the night be with us!
🔭 Equipment:
Telescope: Tecnosky AG70
Camera: ZWO ASI294 MCPRO
Image Stacking:
STACK: 50x300s
My Veil Nebula. This one was a 2 panel, about 20 hours per panel. 10 hours each panel of 5nm OIII and H-a Astrodon filters for a Bi-colour finish. Taken through my Sky-Watcher Esprit 100mm Apo.
Mosaics are not really my thing, matching the panels was not fun. Haven't done another since..
:)
lol - may have been a bit heavy handed with the saturation boost in post processing. But I'm still happy with result 🤪
VdB 15 in constellation Camelopardalis is a blue reflection nebula.
Captured this over 4 nights Oct 29th - Nov 1st with a 6" refractor #telescope and colour camera (no filter). 15+ hours total integration time.

I fell in love with space as a teenager, after watching the movie Apollo 13 in 1996. I still want to be an astronaut!
