It's been almost exactly 5 years since I was last here. Hi everybody. Here, have a pretty pile of worlds. Cassini Saturn orbiter image of Rhea, Enceladus, Mimas, Janus, and Pandora with a very foreshortened edge of the ring system, composed of 3 photos taken on July 29, 2011 and processed into color by me.

I'm very privileged in my job to go to amazing #astronomical observatories. This one is the #DanishTelescope at the #ESO #LaSilla #Observatory at the edge of the #Atacama desert in #Chile. I was inside the dome observing #microlensing events during the course of this #timelapse. Look out for the glorious view of the #Galactic Centre near the end.

I think we have to realise that the learning curve here is steepish, but rather than be anxious about it, shouldn’t we should celebrate the adventure of slowly finding out something that was puzzling at first? On Sol 610 Mastcam-Z photographed the cliff formations near the present location. Perhaps due to interest from NASA geologists on Earth, on Sol 612 SuperCam trained its telescope on a small section of those cliffs.

During its fast traverse around North Seitah #Perseverance drove long hours and came to rest late in the afternoon. End-of-drive images were captured early in the evening, showing interesting long shadows and lower light.

With some additional processing to white balance the prevailing orange colors and bring out distant hills, those early evening images appear eerie and beautiful:

I've dabbled in #astrophotography over the years and despite all the bad in 2020, we were treated to spectacular views of #Comet #NEOWISE over that summer. This photo is a stacked composite of 30, tracked images of the comet taken on 18 July 2020.

It was a fast and steep learning curve to get this image and there were lessons learned. I need to get back under the stars soon!

This is NASA Juno approaching Jupiter a few days ago... the full polar orbit!
There's also Io lurking around and the Great Red spot is visible in the approach phase.
