Some basics of social media #accessibility that are useful for pretty much all platforms:

- capitalize each word in multi-word hashtags
- add alt text to your images. Actually describe the image; don't just use the space for jokes or Easter eggs
- don't overuse emojis (the screen reader reads each one)
- if you create videos, caption them
- if you share a video that doesn't have captions, provide a description

Did you know that if you capitalize each word in a multi-word hashtag, #ScreenReaders can read them as words, but if you leave them lowercase, they can't? Well, now you know! So, for #accessibility, please capitalize words when there's more than one in a hashtag.

its interesting - when you view someones profile from mastodon, you can only see the people they're following *on your server*. if you want to see their full follow list you have to open their profile on their native server.

It took me several days to decide how to respond to the chaos on #Twitter caused by Elon Musk’s behavior, but I had to do it bc I run public outreach for my research institute (and we get cited A LOT in the media).

I have peace of mind now that I’ve decided to simply pause all Twitter activity for now and instead rely on #Substack, listservs, email (I already do these 3) and now @Mastodon.
