We like to talk about the seedy underbelly of the internet being dark net sales of cheap meth and fake assassination sites, but the real seedy behavior is by large companies that prey on the lives of our children, creating shadow profiles for even the youngest of them. Everything from their apps to photos posted with parental love, data mined by AI for sinister ends -- How to trap our children in the unyielding web of dopamine slavery, clicking links in a proverbial field of advertising.

Or maybe it's just me.

I started Mastodon because I believe in decentralization. The more servers there are, and the more people are spread throughout them, the stronger the network is.

I encourage people to join other servers, or start their own.

However! mastodon.social is the gateway for those who are undecided, or who don't yet know about decentralization. It is also my baby just like the software itself. I do not appreciate hostility towards it when promoting the benefits of other servers. Thanks

Just wanted to say that i'm appreciating the fediverse more and more each day. When i think of the federated model or instances, i see images of neurons, nodes, rhizome, networks.Decentralized yet connected. Amazing.

Japan opens door wider to foreign blue-collar workers despite criticism

"Immigration has long been taboo in a country where many prize **ethnic homogeneity**, but the shrinking, aging population has increased pressure to relax strict controls on foreign workers."

When it's Japan it's called one thing and in Europe and everywhere else it is called quite another thing.

But it's the same damned thing.

For years a secret shame destroyed my peace--
I'd not read Eliot, Auden or MacNiece.
But now I think a thought that brings me hope:
Neither had Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Pope.

Brexit - Is it a tragedy (think Aeschylus, Sophocles or Euripides) or a comedy (think Aristophanes. Menander and Philemon)? Probably both. And all so predicable...

Getting it right doesn't always feel good!

And now these three remain: phone, text, and email. But the greatest of these is email, for it hath a robust antispam system.
