If you're a software developer who, like me, thinks Microsoft & the rest of the "Frightful Five" have way too much power an influence... the best way to take them all down a few pegs is to release the software you write under a #Copyleft license like the GPL/AGPL. They *hate* that, because they can't co-opt it like they can all the "weak" MIT/Apache/BSD licensed open source. #FOSS is MSFT's kryptonite. Pass it on.

Yesterday I posted this image on my FB profile. It's the most engagement I've had all year. 🙂 Oh and I was being serious.

Focus on #COVID might hamper state’s push against rising sea

#SeaLevelRise will likely put at least $8 billion in property underwater by 2050, and could affect tens of thousands of jobs and billions in gross domestic product, according to studies cited by the office...

There are only three countries in the world that haven’t officially adopted the metric system for weights, measures and temperatures: Liberia, Myanmar and the USA.

When dictators fudge elections, why don't they at least pick plausible numbers?
Heavily monitored democratic elections pretty much never show numbers like those presented by the DPRK for example.
Lukashenko in Belarus claiming 80% is utterly ridiculous and entirely unbelievable.

When it comes to the privacy vs usability debate, I come down hard on the side of privacy. Doesn't matter how pretty it is if it's going to get you rubber hosed.

An example of this in practice is eschewing software & services which use privacy and security in their marketing but whose implementations don't hold up under scrutiny, such as Protonmail and Keybase.

A lot of people will defend such products regardless, resulting in a trend I've been thinking of as "privacy roleplaying". It's harmful and needs to stop.

The words 'fascist' and 'fascism' get used a LOT around here. My working definition of fascism is the marriage of capitalism and government - corporatism. On masto it means anything from 'homophobe' to 'someone I don't like'.
Bit difficult to organize against an ill-defined enemy.
"Come comrades! Let us fight this vague, handwavy thing!! Who's with me?!?"
"Well, err..." "I'm getting my hair done." "Maybe tomorrow" "I may meet you there." "I'm bored."

'Don't they care?': Europeans astonished as U.S. hits 5 million cases
"We Italians always saw America as a model," said Massimo Franco, a columnist with daily Corriere della Sera. "But with this virus we've discovered a country that is very fragile, with bad infrastructure and a public health system that is nonexistent."
Well, that's the power of hollywood isn't it? Land of the free that imprisons more of its own people than any other country.

I saw someone in a Gucci mask today. I don’t know if it’s genuine or ironic but if the former what a statement about how we want to portray ourselves. It’s a health precaution, not a fashion statement.

Happy National Day Singapore!
Compare and contrast the statesman-like, sensibly cautious and yet inspiring speech of PM Lee against the lunatic ravings of bolsonaro, bojo and trumpy or the toff insincerity of trudeau's schoolboy performances. Gives one hope in humankind.

The #Covid19Cymru figures have certainly been doing odd things lately. Two days ago, 7 deaths were recorded. Yesterday, 1, then today, 0.
The number of new cases today is 26; this figure is on the rise again, having been in the teens for a while.
It's strange, for sure.
7-day average deaths: 2.0 (that's the equal lowest for a week)
Total: 1579
