Many frustrating hours later, I just installed Linux Mint on the same disk, set up a Windows VM with virt-manager and used a windows-only tool to create a bootable USB stick.

I had a working Windows installation at 4AM – more than 12 hours after I started putting together the new setup.

2022 is at least the year were getting a Linux installed on a desktop is easier than trying to persuade Windows to pretty please actually boot the fucking installer.
