BREAKING: The BT strikes are over after company bosses agreed to give workers a £1,500 pay rise. Isn't that amazing? It's almost like they had that money all along and withheld it from their workers until strike action forced their hand x

@clive
I had been looking for a book for years because it is so expensive for me.

Very surprised to finally buy it from a Tunbridge Wells Oxfam shop for £8.99.

Privatising The World by Oliver Letwin

Normally over £40 used and £60 plus new.
Even, the local library could not supply it for me.

I believe much of the content of this book has already happened 😥

Brexit is proving the biggest headache for British businesses, ranking even higher than Russia’s war in Ukraine, Covid or rising energy costs. Meanwhile Rishi Sunak & his Chancellor continue to keep their heads firmly buried in the sand bloomberg.com/news/newsletters

For my non-Church friends, just to let you know that today is the first day of Advent. Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, which may or may not fall on 1 December. Don’t be fooled by those chocolate filled calendars!

Two universities - QMUL and Wolverhampton - have threatened to dock the pay of striking academics indefinitely unless they undermine the strike by rescheduling teaching activities theguardian.com/education/2022

Not only are such moves outrageous, they may also violate the right to strike, which is recognised as part of the right to freedom of association under Article 11 ECHR - as this post by Alan Bogg and Michael Ford KC shows uklabourlawblog.com/2022/10/06

I read in nation.cymru that the First Minister says it's always been hard to have good North-South transport links. At one level, that's obviously correct but we have had a far more extensive rail network in the past than we have now. There's little chance of much change on that while rail infrastructure isn't devolved but it would be good to see fixing that become much more of a priority. The old GWR route map reminds us what it could look like...

Don’t ever, ever forget: The Tories killed thousands of #NHS Staff with their greed, corruption and callous negligence during a 100% avoidable pandemic (the clue is we’re an *island*):

If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.

“To the extent that people remain active on Twitter, they preserve the viability of Musk’s gambit. The illusory sense of community that still lingers on the platform is one of Musk’s most significant assets. No matter which side prevails, the true victor in any war is the person selling weapons to both sides.”

@metalhead84 Well, we're told that EU passports must be burgundy coloured, but it seems that nobody told Croatia (who persist in issuing theirs in dark blue).
Seems to me that the EU don't make passport colour a deal-breaker for membership...🤷‍♂️

So, because the Wales v Australia match was not on TV, I decided to tidy up my messy book shelves.
(They look worse now!😳)

I couldn't resist reading bits of a lot of them. 😁

I am sharing just one! I rarely read novels but this is an absolute favourite, which went on to become a play.

More frustrating than anything else because it means no one with power, prospective or actual, is proposing a solution other than "make Brexit work".

Why has Starmer painted himself into a corner, rejecting rejoin, single market, and customs union? How is he going to get out of that?

For growth, the customs union is an easy win isn't it?
