BookWyrm is a Fediverse alternative to GoodReads.

They've just opened their onboarding site at:

joinbookwyrm.com

("Onboarding" is when you make it as easy as possible for people to join something.)

BookWyrm and its instances are currently still in beta testing, but you can join now if you want to try it out. Instances marked as "closed" mean you can join but you have to request an invitation.

I stopped listening to #TED Talks a long time ago. It seems like 90% of the speakers are "thought leaders" trying to apologize for the failures of the current system - capitalism/neo-feudalism/whatever you call it.

The world is burning and these thought leaders have duct-tape solutions which help the rich ignore the problems and feel good.

Ignore the TED thought leaders and pay attention to the public intellectuals instead (e.g. Douglas Rushkoff, Naomi Klein, Richard Wolff, Cory Doctorow etc.)

Three months since we reported residents in Skewen were living in “constant fear” of a repeat, it’s happened.

They fear the drains can’t cope with heavy rain since the mine shaft blow out - but the Coal Authority says drainage issues are a matter for the council.

Help Needed!

anyone in the Fediverse have experience navigating the United States mental health systems? Particularly with any knowledge of longer term residential MH facilities and how to talk to mental health social workers.

I am helping a loved one, and trying to figure it out mostly on my own.. and it’s real hard.

Boosts very welcome.

Erratum: the flowers I identified as of a strawberry plant are actually from a blackberry plant.
