One or two other words also suggest themselves.
"The most beautiful and most profound experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms - this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness."

#chemistry #Physics people of #mastodon can you help me understand if this question I've had has an answer.
Here is my attempt at asking my question:
Is there a reaction/phenomenon that *seems* to violate the laws of entropy but actually doesn't? For example, you have substance A then you place a droplet of substance B on it and it diffuses/spreads/mixes and later (after some time) it seemly starts pulling together until it's again a single droplet of substance B (as if time itself had rewinded tenet style) such that if I took a video of this reaction and later on gave you the frames/pictures of that video, you would not be able to with 100% certainty put the frames together in the original order (since you can't tell which frames corresponds to the original droplet of B in A and which one corresponds to when B clumped up after having first diffused). What is this reaction?

Include in the insane drug wars and of course funding the cartels and running guns for them. Oh yeah, and the billions that the banks need so that they don't collapse. What else... Welp, nothing for the people, that's for damn sure.
At least when Obama spent half a billion, the national park near me got a makeover and the trails refreshed.... I miss that dude's spending... not his wars and not his anti-whistleblower bullshit.

Congratulations to Joshua Angrist and Guido Imbens for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for their work in developing methodologies in the analysis of causal relationships.
The methodologies are useful in many fields of study beyond economics and allow precise conclusions to be drawn about cause and effect from natural experiments (observation of naturally occurring conditions and events rather than planned, controlled experiments).
This is has been a huge problem in many fields -- establishing cause and effect rather than just correlation between variables. Their methods have made that easier.

@noelle Serious scholarly response though:
There is really only one historic quote about Cleopatra regarding her beauty as far as I know. This comes from Plutarch:
"For her beauty, as we are told, was in itself not altogether incomparable, nor such as to strike those who saw her; but converse with her had an irresistible charm, and her presence, combined with the persuasiveness of her discourse and the character which was somehow diffused about her behaviour towards others, had something stimulating about it. There was sweetness also in the tones of her voice; and her tongue, like an instrument of many strings, she could readily turn to whatever language she pleased..."
Which implies what you said. She was not a great beauty but she was quite charming.
@noelle Another related quote by Plutarch that is earlier in the same text (Life of Antony, XXV.3):
"Judging by the proofs which she had had before this of the effect of her beauty upon Caius Caesar and Gnaeus the son of Pompey, she had hopes that she would more easily bring Antony to her feet. For Caesar and Pompey had known her when she was still a girl and inexperienced in affairs, but she was going to visit Antony at the very time when women have the most brilliant beauty and are at the acme of intellectual power"
liberal is a poor way to define people outside of the USA... liberal anywhere else in the world doesnt look anything like what we generally consider liberal.
Their version of liberal along witht he rest of the world is far more laid back. They wont hate you for not being liberal like they will here and they will have an earnest conversation like adults if you disagree.
The "mugged" quote originated in the US way back in the latter part of the 20th century.
Words are constantly changing their meanings over time. Political terms are especially susceptible because opponents will often intentionally try to redefine the meaning of terms associated with their rivals, or they coop terms that seem positive for their own use.
Liberal started off meaning classical liberalism (Locke, Hobbs, Jefferson), then, in the US, the left cooped the term to describe themselves, hoping to gain positive vibes for themselves, even though their political philosophy was quite different. Later, the conservatives ran the word "liberal" through the toilet describing every ill on Earth as "liberal", so then the left stopped using "liberal" and started using "progressive", even though their ideas have nothing to do car insurance.
@cee shrooms are more fun than acid. Though i wont do any drug frequently so your still talking like once a year.
Share drawings anytime, always interesting to see.
But yea in the rare events I do psychadelics, particularly shrooms, I usually have some sort of deep realization that I just cant shake for a whole.
The thing about vaccines are, even if they dont work (and they probably dont at this point with delta) that the risk from them is so extraordinarily low that there is no reason not to get them.
You are at more risk of harm on your drive to the vaccine location than you actually are by getting the vaccine.
total worldwide death toll to date from the vaccine.... 5 people... 5 people out of over 400 million doses. I think the vaccine is useless but I still got vaccinated simply because there is no good argument not to.
Great poll but surprisingly the majority are incorrect. The answer is "white clothes". The reason being is that blackbody radiation is symmetric. A black object obsorbs IR heat faster but also emits it equally as fast. White on the other hand insulates against it.
Since the IR temperature in the arctic is far below body temperature the net effect of wearing black would be to loose heat where the net effect of wearing white is to retain heat.
Sorry but not only is your quote out of context but it is grossly mistraslated. I have studied the Qu'ran rather heavily and have addressed this passage multiple times.
The part of your translation "to strike" is a translation of the word "daraba" and while that is one of several definitions there are other equally fitting definitions that do not imply violence. The word "daraba" also translates to: to present, to set forth, to leave, to shun, to hit, to tap, or to cover. One could just as easily say the passage is telling you to shun your wife, not to hit them.
Furthermore the context is important, which as I said you left out. The Qu'ran in multiple places explicitly or implicitly indicates that striking your was is against Muslim law.
Here is a quote fromt he Qu'ran that explicitly states you can not hit your wife:
'"O Apostle of God! What is my duty to my wife?" He said, "That you give her to eat as you eat yourself, and clothe her as you clothe yourself; and do not slap her in the face nor abuse her, nor separate yourself from her in displeasure."
