Giving Mastodon another go thanks to Elon. Since my last intro toot I've now got the PhD and I'm now living in Aotearoa (New Zealand).

I'm currently working with a citizen science project collecting remote camera data in forests where I've processed the images using MegaDetector to remove empties then put it on DigiVol for them.

Besides that, I'm mentoring a serious game project about nutrition for kids here in NZ. Exciting things are happening in Ōtepoti Dunedin in the serious games space!

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

Really enjoyed the focus on trees in BBC Countryfile this evening. Nice to see Wales featured (from about 15 minutes in) as the first country globally to declare a Climate Emergency and showcasing the current Fy Nghoeden, Ein Coedwig / My Tree, Our Forest initiative.

I'm a straight white CIS middle-aged grey-bearded male from Sydney who works as a SysAdmin / BOFH. Shy. Introvert. Hate crowds with a passion.

I'm very left-leaning in my political and societal views. Support equality in gender identity, sexuality, etc. Support doing more to protect the environment and climate. Trickle down economics doesn't. You get the idea.

I enjoy long drives for the sake of the travel rather than the destination. I don't spend anywhere near enough time in the water. I suck at but enjoy photography. And I watch way too many movies & tv-shows. Mostly sci-fi & fantasy.

Also a very avid sportsball supporter. Mostly Rugby Union (Northern Suburbs, Waratahs, Wallabies, mens & womens comps), Ice Hockey (Sydney Bears, Sydney Sirens, Seattle Kraken), to a lesser extent NRL (Norths Bears, Rabbitohs, Eels), MotoGP, and cricket (Sydney Sixers, Australia).

the daughter of one of the early nuclear engineers. He specialized in materials research for shielding suitability;
70 years old;
retired from a healthcare system after 40 years of employment with them, the last 20 years were in IT;
The proud mother of a mathematics in a Denver university who is also invilved with the LGBTQ community;
fond of #sci fi;

former mother of a bushbaby, who passed in 1971;
definitely left of center;
a voter;
getting solar panels in February;
a fugitive from Texas currently in Albuquerque, NM;
fond of all animals, used to be the neighborhood snake wrangler;
the daughter of a natural history devotee;
a voracious reader;
the wife of a fine arts scholar, who has read me to sleep every night for 24 years - all of the major classics and many of the minor ones (I got the liberal arts education that I had missed as a science student);
a terrible housekeeper, with an even worse house husband;
glad to be alive even though that might change any day with the current political disaster.

I don’t understand why people think Mastodon is difficult. It seems pretty straightforward, and the separate servers are no biggie. I’m enjoying this fresh start here, like moving to a new apartment!

I'm a Prof of Operational Research at UCL & member of Independent SAGE.
As such, I've been tweeting about Covid for 2.5 yrs now so expect more of that here!
