@n0m0time In reply to another posting of this image, I tried to provide what I think are the sources of the Trump paraphrases (though I don't have nice links to transcripts at hand), so I suppose it may be worth linking here too:
I'm going to submit a journal paper this year, which means the bill for publication will either come this fiscal year (before March 31) or... next fiscal year... depending on the speed of the reviewer.
Finance wants us to declare this month if we want to rollover any budget, so I asked them how to handle this uncertainty.
They seem completely flabbergasted and I can only assume no one has ever submitted a paper between November ~ February before in the whole history of the universe 🤔
@BrianJopek As someone else said, I think this would be more effective with citations (to make it clear this is not hyperbole or inaccurate paraphrase). I don't know if the original source gave such citations., but I believe these are the origins of the Trump paraphrases:
1 and 2 appear to be taken from his Veteran's Day speech on 2023-11-11 (though he also made some overlapping remarks on Truth Social). 3 appears to be taken from a speech he gave in Cedar Rapids, IA on 2023-10-07. And 4 appears to be from a speech he gave in Hialeah, FL on 2023-11-08 (though I'm not immediately finding great information on this one).
Of course it would be nice to pull the exact quotations from transcripts.
Article from the Washington Post stating what needs to be stated plainly:
"Trump calls political enemies ‘vermin,’ echoing dictators Hitler, Mussolini
On Veterans Day, the former president vowed to 'root out' his liberal opponents, drawing backlash from historians who say his rhetoric is reminiscent of authoritarians"

@TonyStark @MartyLemert Don't forget: that insipid NTYimes hed was the *replacement* headline - the original was this:
@rdviii I'm really happy to see that this is released under Creative Commons with openness to further contributions.
I suggested it to a computer scientist I know who has been trying to become more familiar with quantum computation and related topics (but doesn't have the deeper background with quantum mechanics and related mathematical methods presupposed by many sources).
And it's done! Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your enemies!

For nearly a decade, I did national public opinion polling out of 2 large research universities.
As I now watch U.S. election coverage swell, a friendly reminder that polls miss A LOT of people + A LOT of opinions.
So a full year out from the next #election, don’t pay much attention to polls in the #news.
Can people even have babies in space? This is a delightful conversation with @ZachWeinersmith Kelly Weinersmith & Clara Moskowitz about all the ways living off-planet would be dreadful https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/can-we-even-have-babies-in-space-why-were-not-ready-for-life-off-planet/

I love that this is yet another article that links to insightful #Mastodon discussions that helped inform it!
A Tesla whistle blower was fired after raising concerns about the safety of Tesla's Autopilot driver-assistance software and has leaked thousands of accident reports.
Anyone who's watched Elon running Twitter into the ground while also unmasking his far right tendencies is probably not surprised that Tesla cut corners on safety and retaliates against anyone who complains.
It's stunning to me how many people keep buying Tesla's each month and put their lives in his hands

(The progressive delusion that censorship only occurs when the First Amendment is violated is a *wild* own-goal, one that excuses, for example, the decision by school book-fair monopolist #Scholastic to remove books about queers and Black and brown people from its offerings as a purely private matter without consequences for free speech):

The German eXit from Musk's hate platform is real and ongoing.
I'm seeing accounts for newspapers, courts, libraries, radio stations, cities, nonprofits, etc. getting shut down permanently or moved into maintenance mode. This is all very organic, e.g., the city of Cologne had a vote on withdrawal from X:

I can barely keep up. Many of these accounts are now on the fediverse. The ones I've tracked so far are in the eXit spreadsheet:
of all the government sites the I’ve audited in the past half of a year, the sites that have the best frontend (most accessible, most performant) are the ones that were built 20 years ago, but the devs are usually embarrassed that they haven’t kept up with “what’s new” and I always go the extra effort saying “no no no, this is great. you want to look new? over lunch I’ll write 100 lines of CSS to make that happen. but this site is plain old HTML and it is the best.”
“add some headings though.”

Conservatives are (partially) right about woke capitalism. It *is* a threat to democracy. Concentrating the power to decide who gets to speak and what they get to say into the hands of five or six corporations, mostly run by mediocre billionaires, *is* bad for society. The moderation decisions of giant platforms *are* a form of (commercial) censorship, even these don't violate the #FirstAmendment:

@dgoldsmith I remember reading Everett's original work on the relative state interpretation (as he called it) and being struck by how much of it seemed to mirror and presage the observations that would be made in later works on quantum decoherence. It's really unfortunate that it wasn't taken more seriously at the time.
I see that Sen. Tommy Tuberville has put out a generic statement about military veterans. Has he no shame? He must end the blockade and let the hundreds of stalled promotions go forward. He is harming our military readiness, all to score political points. And his staffers, some of whom are Bannonites, are gleeful about it. It appears they want the military badly weakened so that Trump can come back in and bend it to his corrupt will.
Theoretical physicist by training (PhD in quantum open systems/quantum information), University lecturer for a bit, and currently paying the bills as an engineer working in optical communication (implementation) and quantum communication (concepts), though still pursuing a little science on the side. I'm interested in physics and math, of course, but I enjoy learning about really any area of science, philosophy, and many other academic areas as well. My biggest other interest is hiking and generally being out in nature.
