NASA’s buildings are even older than its graying workforce
The space agency says its facilities are in an "increasing state of decline."
Impressive that Darij Grinberg posted the whole textbook made for the course “Introduction to graph theory” at Drexel Univ on arXiv.
Moreover, the textbook itself is under CC0 1.0 Universal license.

Because you all seem interested in this I wrote a longer blogpost for you with a few of the papers that have been impacting me. I hope it's helpful. There is a lot I think we can learn from sense of belonging on software teams.

A very useful and previously unknown Windows tip was revealed this week, where you can halt process jumping in Task Manager by holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, allowing easier access to a listed process.
She Helped Build the Atomic Bomb to Stop the Nazis, But Was Haunted by What It Did to Japan. CNN is reporting that someone has doxed at least half of the members of the Fulton grand jury that just returned the criminal indictment against Trump, w/ anonymous users calling for violence against them. I guess this is the new normal. SMH.

These two plots tell a sad story about where we are in #Eastern #Washington with the #Covid #pandemic. From what limited information is still available nowadays, it seems like the whole country is experiencing yet another wave of #SARSCov2 circulation, but my local region is all I really try to keep up with anymore.
I will try to explain in a 🧵 why this is all so crazy and awful. Read on if you care about your ability to engage in mental, physical, and even sexual activity.
It occurred to me today that the social value of the open-source work I do in my free time has probably been an order of magnitude more useful to the world than everything I've ever done as a paid employee. Needing to seek a wage almost certainly makes me a less productive member of society than I would otherwise be.
These days, I have more faith that Germany will keep Holocaust deniers and fascists at bay than my fellow Americans.
While the vandalism and book burning is disturbing, the planned demonstration, already in the works, offers a chance for good people there to feel solidarity.

The University of Chicago is the first of 16 schools to settle claims it participated in a price fixing cartel with Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, MIT, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn, Rice, Vanderbilt, and Yale.
These schools limited availability of financial aid to students. U of Chicago will pay $13.5M to settle the suit.
It’s incredible how greedy these schools are despite their massive endowments. Many, if not all, worth billions.

Theoretical physicist by training (PhD in quantum open systems/quantum information), University lecturer for a bit, and currently paying the bills as an engineer working in optical communication (implementation) and quantum communication (concepts), though still pursuing a little science on the side. I'm interested in physics and math, of course, but I enjoy learning about really any area of science, philosophy, and many other academic areas as well. My biggest other interest is hiking and generally being out in nature.
