Epidemiologist warns Aussies of long Covid risks after repeat infections
“There’s just so much evidence. Anyone who is telling you that is not the case is not reading the literature. There are also good studies that show if you are reinfected, your risk of long Covid increases. And we know long Covid is already impacting workforces in the US and the UK.”
Amazing news. Israel agrees to a 4 day ceasefire, and Hamas agrees to the release of 50 hostages https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/israel-hamas-hostages-deal-1.7033147
“We have decided to suspend our activity on Twitter/X.” - Flipboard https://flipboard.medium.com/flipboard-steps-back-from-tweeting-b0f4af1f4ffc
FWIW, I decided earlier today to halt cross-posting from Mastodon to Twitter/X and for an indefinite period wll no longer be active on that platform.
@brave
So it's only a matter of time until #BraveBrowser gets banned from Google Play app store (because #Google won't tolerate ad blockers). I hope Brave will be available through #FDroid then, or are you planning any other alternatives for #AndroidOS?
And what about #iOS users, I guess Brave won't be available on iOS at all because Apple disallows any alternative installations.
@FRONTINE_LeFEVRE
Google Chrome will limit ad blockers starting June 2024
The "Manifest V3" rollout is back after letting tensions cool for a year.
Reports: Sam Altman in talks for OpenAI return; board members could be ousted
"Altman would return only if the board members who fired him left," report says.
A City on Mars: Reality kills space settlement dreams
Let’s not send a few thousand people to Mars as a big experiment in survival.
Here I explain a discovery I'm a bit proud of - probably known already, but still cool:

Certainly there would be issues to resolve, such as how to handle commenting and moderation. (News orgs attract an especially ugly kind of trolling.)
But Mastodon solves the verification problem in a truly elegant way. And while it's still having major growing pains, it has enormous potential.
Early this year I offered a strategy for migration, and asked philanthropists to help out. I didn't get any traction, but I remain hopeful.
Here's that post again:
Our understanding of the universe has fundamentally changed by accessing infrared light. This year marks the anniversaries of two infrared space telescopes before #NASAWebb.

Journalists shouldn't just leave Twitter with no migration plan. They can bring along their audiences and connections if they get organized. Reupping something I posted early this year:
here’s a total n00b question on #securityclearance for infosec work: in my ignorance, i thought it wasn’t possible to work fully remotely under a secret clearance but i just saw a job posting stating just that. how does that work?
Theoretical physicist by training (PhD in quantum open systems/quantum information), University lecturer for a bit, and currently paying the bills as an engineer working in optical communication (implementation) and quantum communication (concepts), though still pursuing a little science on the side. I'm interested in physics and math, of course, but I enjoy learning about really any area of science, philosophy, and many other academic areas as well. My biggest other interest is hiking and generally being out in nature.
