rgb or CMYK? anyone to talk? it all started with pastel colors emotion wheel witch I disagree with 🧙‍♀️

@rgb HDR is not a matter of color range, it is a matter of dynamic range. That is, the ratio of maximum brightness to minimum brightness. With a digital camera, it is the ratio of "pure white" to that level of black where no detail can be seen behind the noise. With a monitor, it is the ratio of white to that "gray" that is called black, but we can still see the backlighting. (Well, with LED, of course, "black is black," but white is not the sun there, either.)

In numbers, the monitor usually has 10 f-stops (a term from photography, means two-to-some degree), the SLR has 14, the eye has more than 20. So to fully show what the eye sees, we have to take 2-3-5 shots to capture both dark and light areas equally well. That's HDR.

But to fit that into the monitor's range... Algorithms are applied that try to approximate the perceptual features, making the dark areas lighter and the light areas darker. This is called tonal mapping and is something that is often confused with the concept of HDR.

@rgb I don't know if I made myself clear... The AdobeRGB space, let's say, is where SLR cameras shoot. They have a sensor that has a wide range.

This space is used in image processing to make sure that colors are not "spoiled" during color correction.

Before printing, the wide range is compressed to CMYK, taking into account the eye's sensitivity to one color or another.

And the same is done every millisecond when the work is displayed on the monitor ;-)

@rgb > LAB is visible range visible to the 👁‍
Basically... This model is made for that purpose. But made by scientists for computers, shall we say. It's easy to calculate but unintuitive. There are at least a few others that will also separate luminance from color and fit into 3 coordinates.

> I knew that rgb is light, and cmyk is just added black
Light is primarily an electromagnetic wave. We can CREATE the sensation of a particular color with 3 LEDs, but it won't be the same as a wave.

We can create the same sensation by using other LEDs or even light reflected from paper. In the CMYK model, no paint is white, and each paint is BLOCKING one of the primary colors.

@rgb I took the first and least complicated picture I could find. Here RGB implies sRGB. It's a long story, but in a nutshell - sRGB is what ANY normal monitor MUST display. Adobe RGB is an abstract standard that allows you to describe with 3 coordinates at least CMYK (they are different for every printing press!) and sRGB along with them.

There are monitors that cover the AdobeRGB range (professional, expensive).

There are abstract color MODELs that are WIDER than AdobeRGB (even the blue coordinate goes into invisible colors there).

It's all about color gamut and the appatate problems associated with it. If it's about getting a uniform color wheel or mixing colors the way artists do, you have to use other color models "under the hood" and only give RGB to the monitor.

@rgb This picture shows schematically "all the colors" visible to the eye. The RGB model recreates them using 3 coordinates; CMYK, 4 (+ black ink, because the printing process is imperfect, but we need clear text). From this you can see that a LINEAR shift in RGB coordinates will not produce a uniform change in visible color. But the RGB model covers a much larger range of colors than CMYK.

@rgb If I understand the problem correctly, there is no problem. RGB is a model that allows you to display the maximum number of colors in the digital world, using 3 coordinates. The inconsistency of the usual understanding here is inevitable. CMYK looks flatter simply because it is (I don't know how it's done, but usually) a conversion to a model with less coverage and then back again. The conversion algorithms have worked twice while doing this. You don't have to do it that way.
