As some of you know, I'm helping to build a free and open-source transcription app for journalists called Stage Whisper.

Unfortunately, our lead front-end dev had to step away from the project a bit, so right now we're looking for some more #Electron, #Reactjs and #javascript devs to contribute: https//stagewhisper.org

Chinese market research company InfoLink estimates 265-300 GW of solar PV has been installed this year, and expects a further growth to 325-359 GW next year, driven by Chinese and European markets!
Highest numbers I've seen around.

The NVDE's plan for 5 billion m³ reduction within a year (dated March...) and 10 billion m³ in 4 years can still be a good starting point.

Once we have our Dutch national plan on the road, we should team up for an EU-wide gas demand reduction plan. Because we're all in the same energy and climate crises.

Data Brokers are one of the biggest threats to your privacy. Until there are better privacy laws in the US (and I'm not holding my breath), the best you can do is find them and request an opt-out. @yaelwrites put together an excellent repo of the worst offenders. Working your way through this list reduces your attack surface significantly: https://github.com/yaelwrites/Big-Ass-Data-Broker-Opt-Out-List

🆕 blog! “How much decentralisation is too much?”

Twitter's over, my dudes! And now everyone is on Mastodon! But Mastodon isn't a site, it is a federated network running an interoperable protocol! Yay for ActivityPub1! Anyway, that means there isn't one Mastodon website. There are many. There is only one Twitter. There is only one Facebook. There is only one In…

When looking at our OpenGL conformance test results, remember that macOS isn't certified itself! Apple's drivers have their own bugs, and we already run some games better than Apple's drivers, like Darwinia 😇

我的朋友点心，在广州被“失踪”了

不免让我想到，六四母亲们得有多心碎……

朋友分享了这首诗，我也很喜欢。然后他发现是点心写的，就是被消失的点心。💔

In other words, ISW also assessing not only that a Ukraine-Russia ceasefire is very unlikely in the near-term (and that Russia is uninterested in one), but also noting that Putin is specifically targeting Western audiences with the pretense that he is interested in one to cause friction, and allege that "peace would be available, if only US/Ukrainian belligerence did not prevent it"

For reasons I can't fathom, Internet Archive Scholar got attention today, a mass of it, painting it as a "new" service. Actually, it has been out there for about a year. BUT....

If beautifully structured access to academic citations by the millions is your bag or desperately needed tool, especially ones that are ONLY left in the Wayback Machine, you are in LUCK. And this will be your favorite day. Try it.

The terrorist attack in Moore County, NC knocked out cell towers, internet and phones. People had to drive to the neighboring county to find out what was going on. They couldn't call 911. As I'm writing this, some towns are still without power.

I can't stress enough how important amateur radio is in situations like this. Handhelds run on batteries, and most hams have several batteries charged at all times. Base units often are run off grid with battery banks, solar, etc. Mobile units run in vehicles. Repeaters are usually powered by solar batteries, the ones based on mountain tops are around here.

Having a license, practice and experience with the radios and nets and having a way to talk to others, call for help, or assist are invaluable.

If you say "never again", think:

What is my own moral responsibility as a bystander of evil?

What has my reaction been to acts and expressions based on antisemitism & other ideologies hatred?

What can I do, to make our world a better & safer place."

And then, start doing it.

I slept very poorly last night due to the news that Musk gave privileged / possibly PII & DM level access of Twitter mod access to a variety of strident anti-LGBTQ (especially anti-trans) bigots who masquerade as journalists. This is an incident which would require user notification under California law, if it weren’t for the platform owner granting it. It still might be a violation of privacy laws. It’s absolutely a disaster for all LGBTQ people who used Twitter.

I am in tears because now I’m having to delete conversations I’ve had with dead friends

We adopted Mila when she was 11 from a shelter. She’s now very old and has a host of old cat health conditions. I’m making it my personal mission to spoil her for the rest of her life.

Just gave her small cuts of.. sashimi. Mila deserves the best.
