The best thing coming out of the web3 movement is that now, if you raise any concerns about some new tech and someone replies with the usual "your resistance is futile, once a tech is invented it's a matter of time that it gets adopted widely", you can answer with a jpg of a bored ape and banish the technophile to the ethereal plane for 10 turns
Cargo ships are finding that using sails allows them to reduce fuel usage by *one third*. Only 30 of the world's 60,000 cargo ships are wind-assisted right now, but it appears that the entire industry has just figured out that it would be foolish *not* to put sails on their ships. The potential reduction in emissions—CO2 and otherwise—would serve as a significant reduction in the rate of climate change. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/03/climate/wind-powered-ships-climate.html

One of the saddest parts of an #opensource maintainer's life is having to reject PRs, sometimes thousands of lines long, for no better reason than "this is not the project's direction right now and it will interfere with what we're working on".
I don't know where the "write code first ask questions later" approach came from, but I really wish we'd communicate with each other more. The fallout of not doing so isn't fun for anyone.

¿Es la Seguridad Aeroportuaria un Espectáculo?

Each and every day I keep falling more in love with some concepts of what I like to call "modern R" or "R for developers".
Today the crush belongs to the "targets" package. I have just found that, even when you invalidate a node in the middle of the graph, it does not execute successors of that node if the hash of the object generated remains the same. That was well thought.
