Rant about the world of social media and marketing:

My latest (very recent) shock was receiving an email from a digital painting software company (I can't name them) asking me my price to switch my entire workflow to their proprietary product and announce it on my channels.

Of course I refused.

I'm still 100% committed to Free/Libre&Open-Source Software. But it made me realise that these days even profiles without a huge internet presence are getting paid to use and advocate things. Meh 😔

One of my favorite things about #PositConf2023: For years now, @hadleywickham urges attendees to follow the "Pacman rule": If you're standing in a group, make sure to leave space for someone else to join in. It's a nice way to set an inclusive environment.

Ayuso, como buena monolingüe, habla de que parlamentando en varios idiomas se pierden los matices y peligran las leyes.

¿Sabe la señora Ayuso cómo se pierden los matices? Obligándote a hablar en una lengua que no es tu lengua materna.

De los matices que usted no pille ya se encargarán los traductores oficiales, no se preocupe.

Creo que a esta gente le asusta aprender algo de catalán por accidente. Tienen el cerebro tan lleno de odio que no quieren sacar algo de ahí para meter algo de cultura.

Reminder to go to your local library and volunteer to speak on their behalf. Let them know that if folks try to come and ban books that you'll speak publicly against them.

We found out folks were going to be commenting at our library calling for banning books.

So.

We all went and spoke out against them.

Only one person got up and called for a ban. She went first. Everyone after her started calling out her behavior and telling the library staff to keep the books.

The first woman and a couple others soon left before the end of comments.

Drive them out. Protect our libraries.

And for those who question my research agenda because "I'm a computer scientist and I should keep doing AI". Our Planet is dying and I did not find motivation anymore coding algorithms given our current social, political and environmental situation.

I found in critical social sciences an interesting perspective to look at AI.
