Antes de todo, si me podéis ayudar con un retoot os lo agradecería un monton.

Vuelveo a necesitar a alguien que controle bien el tema de Frontend especialmente CSS y NodeJS (Angular, React o similar sería ideal) para poner bonito y responsive un nuevo proyecto de TKZ y que disponga de ganas y tiempo libre.

Tengo la API funcionando (vamos, lo que viene siendo el Backend) y necesito necesito crear la parte de Frontend para integrarla con TKZ.One

Si alguien está interesado podéis escribirme por aquí o directamente por Telegram a "Trankten".

¿Me echa una mano alguien? Se viene algo muy bonito, pero necesito una ayudita desinteresada.

Well it had to happen eventually. #Scripps is retiring FLIP (FLoating Instrument Platform). This is an amazing piece of engineering (and soooo weird on the inside - everything pivots, so walls become floors). The #ship to be towed out to a location, and it would literally flip, sinking most of the ship directly down to give a *very stable platform for #oceanography research. Launched in 1962.

It occurred to me today that the social value of the open-source work I do in my free time has probably been an order of magnitude more useful to the world than everything I've ever done as a paid employee. Needing to seek a wage almost certainly makes me a less productive member of society than I would otherwise be.

Something often lost in the programming world is that it is possible to enjoy the *process* of coding more than the result.

Showing off the results are often not notable, IMO. Probably 90% of the hobby projects I do are things that have been done a million times before, but the difference is that *I* did them. The process was the purpose.

I don't know how to show that off or share it, really, without also giving an artifact (source code, app, etc) away.

It was never about the artifact for me.

Reminded of the “Kurt Vonnegut goes to buy an envelope” quote. One of the best expressions of the joys of careful and deliberate inefficiency I’ve read.

I’ve been reading some of the criticism of the BBC creating their own Mastodon instance. Those against fall mostly into “they promote Transphobia” or “they skewed Brexit coverage” Both seem fair.

BBC creating an instance is good for Fediverse. Period. Just because they are on your street doesn’t mean you have to invite them in for tea or read/boost their posts / support them at all

There's a big research group in my field that "forgets to upload" major parts of the raw data in every single paper I looked at over the last 10 years. In the methods of their "high impact" papers they claim to provide everything, but when you check, some crucial data are missing. Eg they only provide exomes not whole genomes, or leave out the control samples. I once even asked a Nat Gen editor who just shrugged 🤷‍♂️

It's funny when people tell biologists to get a "real job" in the "real world". The living world *is* the real world. The world of economics and finance, real estate speculators and venture capitalists? *That* is the fake world, operating under the delusion that it isn't embedded in and entirely dependent on the the biosphere and all other aspects of the natural world. The problem is our society, which systematically favors profits in the illusory world over the well being of the real one.

mind blown by NixOS again - runing `nixos-rebuild build-vm` makes a virtual machine clone of your computer from its config - or any other NixOS config file. and then it prints the instructions to boot from it, and a few seconds later you're logged into a mini-me version of your PC, whoa

lately I've been thinking I want to replace my crufty Ubuntu home server with NixOS, and this will let me stage a new setup easily in a VM
