RT twitter.com/@falcennial: whomever tweeted "fragile narcissist buys criticism factory" I want u to know I remember these words and laugh every day twitter.com/falcennial/status/

The irony though of building one of the biggest cybersecurity Twitter accounts in history and having my final post blocked and flagged as malicious. 🤷🏻‍♀️🍸💀

Fascists need to silence dissent or else they cannot thrive. Only their ideas may be permitted in the discourse. Nothing else. Journalism does not fit into their authoritarian fantasies.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

having to post links to mastodon on twitter using unicode equivalents. omg, I freely admit to being grumpy at how much of a timesuck gawping at the musk twitter trainwreck has been, but this ... this is amazing.

i'm not even mad

A “legacy bug” has been found on Twitter Spaces so the feature has apparently been deactivated on the platform. Bug was discovered right after about 40,000 people were on a Space, including many who were critical of Musk. Incredibly convenient!

Good blog post in the privacy and national security (that's US national security) concerns of TikTok, by @malwaretech, who decided to have a look whether the app actually asks for location permissions malwaretech.com/opinions/tikto

@alyssam_infosec "This is an un-verified 'verified' account. This person, at one time, had $8".

The sooner that Musk's Twitter goes out of business, the better for freedom of expression, the open web, and most of all democracy. He and his company are a clear and present danger.

Stephen Jay Gould's line is always worth repeating, ringing even more painful now: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."

In 1933, Nazis led torchlit mob into the square and looted the library of the adjoining -Universitat. 40,000 people cheered as they burned over 20,000 books by mainly Jewish, communist, liberal and social-critical authors. Many years later, a panel of glass was set into the ground to mark the spot. It’s a window. Leaning over you can look into a room below. The room is white, lined from floor to ceiling with plain shelves—an empty library. The sort of world we’d live in if the fanatics had won.

In the past 24 hours, Ukrainians have been been blocked from signing up for Twitter using their phone numbers and using 2FA and accounts tracking Russian oligarchs' jets have been suspended.

What happens on Twitter can seem like a sideshow, but Elon Musk's actions are a direct threat to democracy.

Long thread/2

@pluralistic

Every time I see Larry Summers's name, I get incredibly angry that such an evil little man, with such a violent anti-poor philosophy, ever became so powerful. I eagerly look forward to reading his obituary, let me tell you.

I’d like to live in a country where they arrest the president when he attempts to overthrow the government.

It's interesting to see how many current Tesla owners are now expressing embarrassment at driving them in public, due to the now unavoidable associations with Musk's increasingly fascist behavior and statements, with many owners noting that they will never drive another one, and many prospective drivers saying they will now cancel and/or look elsewhere than Tesla.

Of course it's not fair for drivers (who bought into Teslas before Musk's true proclivities were obvious) to be faced with this, but that's what Musk has done to the brand -- single-handedly and with eyes wide open.

"We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must — at that moment become the center of the universe." — Elie Wiesel (from his Nobel Peace Prize speech)
