Police are worse than useless. They are actively harmful. We just had a medical emergency with one of our encampment residents. She was flat on the ground, stuporous, with severe decerebrate posturing and breathing normally.

The cops radioed it in as an overdose (which means EMS will take forever to respond), even though there were no signs of OD. To make things worse, the 911 dispatcher confirmed to me that the cops had given them the complete wrong address in their call.

Even worse, I was the only one on scene carrying Naloxone. The cops made everything worse and were not even prepared for an overdose. The cops asked me several times if I could administer Narcan; I had to correct them repeatedly and tell them there were no overdose symptoms and that the woman had a recent history of aneurysm. They stood their and did nothing, and were afraid to even touch her.

NEVER assume that police have made a proper emergency call. Always call 911 yourself. Carry Narcan.

Folks are treating the recent tech layoffs as something spontaneous. They were not. The current layoffs were orchestrated by a hedge fund (TCI Fund).

This hedge fund demanded that the big tech companies lay people off because they were being paid too much. Let that one sink in: a hedge fund manager saying that you're being paid too much.

Note that TCI is demanding that Google lay off more people.

I spent 3 years of my childhood living in American military bases in Germany. The whole time I was there, I never saw a single German "honor their heritage" by waving Nazi flags or erecting Nazi statues. Not one. Because unlike certain Americans, Germans don't put evil on literal pedestals.

Jacinda Adern has resigned. I am not familiar with NZ politics, but following from the UK, she has been a model of authentic, empathetic and bold leadership. She's a mensch.

In 2020, her bold response to covid showed the world how to bring society together when faced with a crisis.

She says that she needs time off. I see no need to look for other motives; I am happy for her. Her example will encourage other good people to become leaders.

while i'm sad for the country that #JacindaArdern has resigned, i'm happy for her. given everything she's had to navigate us through during her term, and the unrelenting - at times unhinged - hatred directed at her, i'm wishing nothing but peace and love to her and her whānau. hope she finally gets her ideal wedding and some well-deserved respite from the stress and the haters.
