I woke up to the hum of my mind spinning at an unknown hour in the middle(?) of the night for an unknown duration (as I didn’t dare check the time), so now I’m running on Schrödinger’s sleep. Must be due to all the #WWDC23 excitement paired with several strong brews of pu-erh tea that I had over the course of the afternoon 😅
One of the best things I learned about WWDC is to not be shy about signing up for labs.
Don't hesitate because you're not a big company/app.
Don't hesitate because you think your code isn't "good enough".
Don't hesitate because you're not thrilled with how your app looks.
DO IT and you can get such good feedback and/or knowledge.
One of my favorite labs was when I told the Xcode team "I'm sure I don't use 10% of Xcode's features. Please show me cool things." and they did!
...and learn how to write your own in Write Swift macros
And you can hear about the latest addition to Swift’s expressive generics system with Generalize APIs with parameter packs
🚨 Following #WWDC23 in person or remote? You have 20 minutes to register for tomorrow's labs!
1. You deserve a lab as much as anyone; don't think your project is too small.
2. No matter how "bad" your code is they've seen worse. Don't feel anxious; the teams are super helpful.
@Breznsoiza I even forgot that! (I still haven’t gotten used to Messages being editable. :-)
Join me tomorrow morning for “Meet watchOS 10” where I’ll share an in-depth look at how we designed watchOS 10 and how you can apply watchOS 10 design principles to make great apps for Apple Watch. #WWDC2023 https://developer.apple.com/wwdc23/sessions/
With all this excitement don’t forget to sign up for labs! We’d like to help you with your questions, so I hope to see you there: https://developer.apple.com/wwdc23/labs/
There's a nice docs section with "What's new" pages for everything: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/updates/wwdc2023
E.g. what's new in #SwiftUI: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/updates/swiftui #WWDC23
There are some great #accessibility sessions this year at #wwdc23.
Create accessible spatial experiences: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10034/
Extend Speech Synthesis with personal and custom voices: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10033/
Build accessible apps with SwiftUI and UIKit: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10036/
Perform accessibility audits for your app: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10035/
Very fun and exciting reading everyone’s thoughts on the Apple Vision Pro😄 and a great day at Apple Park
But more importantly, I’m excited for the most special time of the year, when we can connect through a week full of activities and labs! Remember to sign up through developer.apple.com or the Developer app, and also catch the schedule for videos! #wwdc #wwdc23
The features that didn’t get discussed onstage at WWDC – Six Colors. Kudos to @dmoren https://sixcolors.com/post/2023/06/the-feautres-that-didnt-get-discussed-onstage-at-wwdc/
Admittedly I’m about 500 messages behind on my Mastodon feed (it’s been a busy day), so maybe someone already noted this, but watchOS 10 isn’t only the new system space with a Smart Stack of widgets. That’s awesome, for sure. But virtually *every app* has gotten a redesign. The whole system has been re-thought. There’s a great session explaining the design philosophy behind watchOS 10 and a deep dive into how to apply these concepts in *your* apps coming on Tuesday!
